Lawyers start work on Alonso's McLaren exit Sep.18 (GMM) The wheels are now in motion for the early conclusion of Fernando Alonso's McLaren contract, according to reports. The German daily 'Bild' on Tuesday said the team's lawyers are now working on ending the deal, after Spaniard Alonso's relationship with McLaren reached a new low following the espionage affair and claims of lying and extortion in Belgium. "Adios, Alonso!" Bild exclaimed. The news brings a fresh perspective to team boss Ron Dennis' admission at Spa-Francorchamps that he is seeking "closure" after one of the most difficult seasons in his 40 year career in racing. "Part of our closure will be to take all the controversy out of the team," the Briton said, adding that any variation to any driver contract for next year would be "by mutual agreement". It is believed that Alonso will return to Renault, where under the guidance of his mentor Flavio Briatore he secured back to back titles in 2005 and 2006. The 26-year-old's McLaren contract was to run to the end of 2008 and also included an option for a third year.
If Alonso leaves McLaren for lets say BMW or Renault, this would set up some terrific F1 competition. Three teams in the running every race. Awesome! Maybe Bernie isn't as stupid as I thought.
Bernie is a clever fellow, but this is sheer luck: Kimi at Ferrari, Hamilton at McLaren, Alonso at Renault and Heidfeld in the Beemer fighting for victories next year. Just what F1 needs to bring some excitement back.
If Alonso's exit from McLaren is arranged, I would assume that it would be subject to a gag provision in an exit contract provision. I would also assume that if the FIA discovered further irregularities that it would force McLaren and Alonso to provide additional evidence. Other than Renault, who would want Alonso now, or for that matter, who would want Pedro de la Rosa? Bring them into your team, watch them cause trouble, possibly cost your team $100,000,000 - sounds like a great idea to me.
If it all turns out this way next season should be a great redemption for the pile of **** that this one is.
What F1 team wouldn't want Alonso? He is the best driver in F1! Everyone seems to forget that it was a Ferrari employee that started this entire Ferrari-gate mess and "but for" his criminal action Mclaren would have never been in constructive possession of the documents at issue. There is no evidence whatsoever that Mclaren or Alonso sought out those documents...they were just dropped in their lap so to speak...Further, Alonso seems to be the whistle blowing hero that compelled that the entire mess be brought to the attention of the FIA.
Mr lawyer, who periodically gets banned from this site, check your facts -- The "whistle blowing" hero was a photocopy shop employee in Britain. But I know lawyers don't always care about the facts. They are usually just good orators.
My understanding is that Unfairnando has an escape clause that if McCheaters do something untoward he can walk. If Dennis the Menace does not agree, it looks like another legal battle. Just what F1 needs.
Let's set this straight: as Back Marker said, it was a photocopy shop employee who brought all of this mess to light, not Alonso (and NOT RON DENNIS). Further evidence developed during the FIA and WMSC's investigation reveal that the confidential information was not limited to the 780 page Ferrari "dossier." Alonso then proved his willingness to compromise his future and that of his team by repeatedly begging for additional information through de la Rosa and Michael Coughlan from Nigel Stepney, and this continued on for months. That does not bode well for the well-being of a future employer, knowing that one of your employees (or potential employees) has a propensity for increasing your enterprise liability. Due diligence would tell you "DON'T TOUCH." The facts recited in the WMSC's September 13, 2007 decision make clear that Alonso and de la Rosa started requesting confidential Ferrari information no later than March 21, 2007 (Decision at paragraph 3.5) and that communications continued between Coughlan and Stepney through at least July 3, 2007, Dec. at paragraph 4.3. Increases in contacts are associated with McLaren's testing and Ferrari's private testing in Malaysia at the end of March, and in the run up to and during the Grands Prix in Australia on March 18, 2007, Malaysia on April 8, 2007, Bahrain on April 15, 2007, and Spain on May 13, 2007. Dec. at paragraph 4.7. The totals include well over 300 phone calls, emails, and text messages between Alonso, de la Rosa, Coughlan, and Stepney covering things such as Ferrari's weight distribution (and testing it on McLaren's simulator), Ferrari's flexible wing and aero balance (McLaren apparently built a copy), special "tyre gas" (to which Alonso replied that it was VERY IMPORTANT that McLaren test the gas used by Ferrari as "they have something different from the rest," and "not only this year. There is something else and this may be the key; let's hope we can test it during this test, and that we can make it a priority!" - Dec. at paragraph 3.14.), Ferrari's braking system (Dec. at paragraph 3.18), and Ferrari's stopping strategy (Dec. at paragraph 3.21). The facts are that the McLaren drivers KNEW that this was confidential Ferrari information, they (and McLaren) reviewed and tested the information, and they begged for more. They knowingly possessed and used stolen property. The end result is that they compromised themselves and their team. And, even though the team reportedly belatedly set up a "firewall" to prevent further communciation between Coughlan and Stepney, when subsequent violations occurred, Couglan's superior at McLaren covered up those violations by telling Coughlan to "burn" the photos provided to Coughlan that Coughlan had shown to him, rather than report the continued transgressions to either the FIA or Ferrari. Ron Dennis came forward only when Alonso threatened blackmail and to out the team by revealing the full magnitude of the cheating going on to the FIA if Ron Dennis didn't give him what he wanted. Ron Dennis then went forward, and provided a very, very limited statement to the FIA - in a clear effort to attempt to control the situation and to outflank Alonso. Nice and reliable bedfellows all!
http://planet-f1.com/story/0,18954,3213_2736013,00.html Gee, I wonder why RD would be trying to throw Renault under the bus at this point? Surely he doesn't suspect FA to be going back to be with Flavio. It would make sense in the "payback" scheme of things wouldn't it? Or maybe I'm just lost in the exhaust fumes.
The photocopy shop employee reported it to the police, not the FIA. It was Alonso who convinced Ron Dennis to report it to the FIA....some say he blackmailed him...who knows...what we do know is RD did report it to the FIA after speaking with Mr. Alonzo..the reigning two time WDC...as far as my getting banned is concerned...look at the thin skinned people in charge of this place...a law professor once told me that you will never be a great trial lawyer unless you're willing to push the envelope on behalf of your client to the point of going to jail for contempt if necessary...
Actually, the Italian authorities provided the email and text message transcripts. Max Mosely provided immunity to any driver on McLaren who could authenticate them. Ron Dennis, DeLarosa, and Alonso did. Hamilton's position was that he was an innocent bystander. He had better hope no one can come up with evidence he was involved in any way; because he doesn't have immunity from penalty right now.
Hmmm, sounds like you want us to believe if the photocopy shop employee had kept quiet, then FA the Saint would have gone to the FIA on his own? You've been working with too many dumb juries if you think I'm going to buy that story. Got to give you credit for practicing what you preach - you're "pushing the envelope" in thinking FA is innocent in all this. IMO, FA thought he could use the situation to his WDC advantage by blackmailing McL in some way by threatening to tell the FIA what he knew. FA is not coming out of this smelling like a bunch of roses. More like something else. JMO
Alonso was the whistle blowing zero only after the whole scandal broke and only because : - FIA was giving him immunity - He was pissed that Mcliars were favoring Crapmilton
