Good evening all. There are numerous threads about radar detectors, but nothing really recent. After encountering a local gendarme today, I am again considering up grading the old Passport SRX that was installed in my 599.
Does anyone have recommendation for something built in that doesn't constantly give false alarms. Thanks to all and stay safe and "fly under the radar".

In the city, all radar detectors pick up the spurious signals, I have 2 , V1 windshield mounts, they work great once your out of the city. As far as laser, the only way to beat them are with jammers.

    Thank you

The best radar detector on the market right now is the Radenso Pro-M. Radenso has been king for the last couple years in terms of range, filtering out noise, it has built in GPS to notify exact locations of speed cameras, and has the least amount of fake positives of any other detector out there. The Pro-M is also the ONLY detector on the market that will filter out almost all nontheatening signals emitted from blind spot indicators, etc on cars. Radenso Is releasing the Theia soon, it is a radar detector that uses artificial intelligence. Do some research on the Pro-M and you’ll see nothing else is better right now. I cannot possibly recommend it enough. You will be shocked out soon it goes off, and how far away the police are. Blows my old Valentine out of the water. Sometimes I will go a few days and it doesn’t even beep once and I have to wonder if it’s even working or not, but really I just haven’t passed any cops and it filters out almost ALL false positives so it just stays quiet except for a real threat.

I’d stay away from Valentine. They had their hey day 15 years ago, but there are far better options these days from many companies. Valentine stays in business because that’s what all of us used two decades ago and we just got used to them with the updates. My buddies with Valentines are always in shock that I can drive around and my detector just never beeps, except for a real cop. Almost every modern premium detector is better than the Valentine nowadays. That said, jammers are important but the Radenso jammers aren’t that good, just the detectors.

I certainly agree that the Radenso is a very good installed detector. Of equal capability is the Escort Max CI 360, another concealed detector system.

As for Valentine, several months ago they released their Generation 2 detector. It is the equal of any detector on the market for rejecting BSM signals and long range capability. The Uniden R7 is also outstanding and has been the king of long range detection with great BSM rejection. The valentine and Uniden are both windshield mount. I personally own a Valentine 1 Gen 2 unit and it is silent with outstanding long range detection.

You can visit Vortex radar or radar rdforum.org for the latest ratings of installed or windshield mount detectors.

I appreciate those responses. Are you using suction cup mounts on windshield, or mirror mounts and if mirror, which one and on which model F? thanks.

I’ve moved from the suction cup mounts because I’ve found them to eventually let loose causing the detector to dangle from the cable. I’ve purchased permanent mounts that use double sided tape available on eBay.

Others recommend the mirror mounts by Blendmount. I’ve never tried that one.

I use a Uniden DFR9 with Waze. This summer I drove from Chicago to Boston with no problems. When connected to Waze it adds known speed traps to its memory. My only complaint is the plug. It has a regular cigarette lighter plug but the old telephone style jack on the detector end. Not a problem if you have a modern car, but my 365 came with the European style lighter so I had to do some mods. Plugs in without issues in my other cars.

Is this in reference to the al priority setup they sell? Or do they have their own jamming setup?

The best "police detector" system is two fold:

    1. Mark 1 eyeball.
    2. Let someone else lead the way and trail them by a 1/4 mile. If you see brake lights, slow down.

Using a radar detector is like wearing a handgun through the wilderness. You get a false sense of security and then get jumped from behind by a mountain lion. The best defense is a very strong sense of where you are and what's around you. Besides, virtually all highway patrol officers use lasers as the radar detectors make their pee pee's go limp.

I've had my detector clearly save me from getting a ticket on many many occasions.

Now you are correct in that you still need to have your wits about you. The detector is just one more sense for you to interpret, it's not magic but it does give you real actionable information.

This idea that all highway patrol officers use lasers is simply not true. Certainly lasers are out there and have to be considered but there are many radar guns out there in active use.

Overall I disagree with your thesis that radar detectors are useless. I've found them to be very useful and feel blind driving around without one.

I’m going to have to disagree as this is dependent on the state. Without radar detectors, half the members on here from Virginia would likely be in jail. They don’t use lasers here. Radar detectors are extremely effective in Virginia and Maryland. Being alert only gets you so far, you need to have a technical advantage to augment any state of alertness. A radar detector is additive to other means including Waze and just knowing the area and where cops typically have speed traps, it is not a replacement. In this area of the country, 80 mph or higher can result in an arrest and jail time. It would be Ill advised to not use every tool at your disposal as the stakes of speeding in Virginia are higher than almost any state. They banned radar detectors here for a reason, and it’s not because they switched to lasers, it’s because they’re absolutely effective and have a direct correlation to reduced revenues for the state of Virginia.

In VA anything 20 over or 80+ is reckless driving and arrestable. They are insane here, worst state in the country. Moving out of here soonest.

I just spent the weekend on the Delmarva Peninsula in VA, unmarked police vehicles everywhere. It sure looked to me that most of them were using laser guns not radar guns. One town I was, key word was, looking to move to, I found that 49% of their revenue came from traffic fines.

    Best are..

    Radenso Pro-m
    Uniden r7
    Valentine g2

They run between $400-$500 plus install to hardwire.

The built in systems, for example, escort 360 ci is about $6000 installed. Unless you need laser jammers, save and get a good windshield.

There are newer versions out now, but I love my Escort 9500ci. I’ll add pics of install in a bit. Between it and Waze I am pretty comfortable with pushing the car. Knock on wood
