    Hey Guys,

With the Ferrari Portofino being replaced by the Roma Spider, how do you guys feel about folding hardtops? Yes, the 296, 812 have it, but in terms of GT cars at a lower price point (BMW M8, Benz SL, Carerra GTS, etc.) the Portofino is the last of the folding hardtops. It will surely be missed in my eyes!

I love the looks and functionality of the hardtop.

^Ditto. Can't see myself going back to an old-school cloth drop top, unless I specifically go and buy an older car. HTC is best of both worlds IMO - coupe and convertible. If Ferrari really wanted to make my day, they'd release a coupe with a sunroof!

I own a 2020 Portofino and love the folding hardtop. In fact, the Portofino is the only car I’ve ever seen where it looks just as good with the top up as it does with the top down.

My first choice is a manual soft top like the designs that Corvette had for more than fifty years (250 California,NART Spyder,Daytona Spyder designs would suffice). Second choice is a manual folding hardtop. Third choice is a manual flip-top targa (575M Superamerica design without the motors). The more complex the design, the more problems it will have over the long run. The top on my Portofino is fine now (especially with the Mods4cars box added),but check back in 20 years. The manual top on my 2002 Corvette is still problem-free and works easily with one hand.

I had a 2002 yellow Corvette convertible with a manual folding top that I loved…one of the best cars I ever owned.

I have owned my soft top 69 Camaro for 44 years. It is a power top and has worked beautifully for those 44 years other than switches that would go out. I like that. Also have a 2015 SpecialeA with the complex top and share your thoughts. But its the only way they come so you go with it and hope for the best.

I generally prefer a soft top although I am impressed with the folding hard top on my California. In most cases I find a hard top takes up more storage space and manufacturers compromise by making the windscreen frame bigger and the roof smaller which means less open space above your head.

I find it interesting how manufacturers are reverting back to soft tops in a lot of cases.

Coupe or convertible in 14 Seconds. looks great top up or down. Currently have 2 RHT (Cali T & MB SL Roadster) vs manual soft top Viper SRT10. Press a button while at a stop light or while moving versus pull over, open the trunk, remove the tonneau cover, pull up and latch the top to the windshield, stow the tonneau, and close the trunk! Soft tops, power or manual wear, crease, fade over time. (still rather have any convertible over a coupe) YMMV

I've got both a hard top and a soft top. I much prefer the hard top to be honest. The mechanics are much more complex on it, which is probably the real reason for manufacturers moving away from them, but I'd have one in preference to the soft top any day.
