Las Vegas 1964 and today

I love Vegas, and Love it’s history just bought the book on amazon and should be here soon, can’t wait!

 

Janet and I had a cocktail at Cleopatra's Barge last Thursday on way to dinner at Joe's. It's not the same, but then again, what is?

 

Arrived today, and read it cover to cover. Great buy, some great pictures really took me back myself to my first visits, and nice to see so many stars at their best in Vegas

 

I love seeing movies and TV shows from when I was growing up here (90's and early 2000's). So much has changed even from then. It's amazing. Truly amazing. High school was fun.

 

Two of my favourite tv shows were based on Vegas, back in the ate 70’s at an impressionable age, Dan Tanna in Vegas, living in a cool conversion at the back of the Desert Inn, and of course, Las Vegas, with James Cann and Josh Duhammel in the 2000’s, loved that show so much, because I used to note the places that appeared in the show and then make a point of visiting and looking around. I think it also captured a lot of the ‘fun and games’ of casino life

 

I like Joes at the Forum shops but its not like old Vegas. The Steak house in Circus Circus reminded me more of the way Las Vegas used to be. Right down to our waiter who could have been in the mob himself at one time.

 

Scott. You really need to go to Pamplemousse. Or there's always Hugo's Cellar. Ferraro's is another leap back in time...Sunday night wine is 50% off for locals. Check out my post in Latest Las Vegas (fine dining) a few years back. It was rodeo week last week so something weird about all those cowboy hats at Joe's. I went there as a favor to my sister...her birthday celebration. Our waiter was suitably broken down. Place was jammed and prices still ballooning. I'll post in dining but we had another tremendous meal at Le Cirque....finally busted the $1,000 barrier.

 

I have seen that place on Sahara. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try it or not.

 

I thought I missed all the fun time with the NRF. Its was playing on every TV in every place I ate. I just happened to be in Montana working and freezing!

I will try some of these other places. Where is Le Cirque? Pampelmousse I have been meaning to try, the wife and I both have time off together next week so I will put that on the to do list. I won't even ask how you broke the $1,000 mark. That is impressive.

 

Pfft, in Vegas that doesn't even take any effort these days. My wife accidentally spent $900 just on truffle shavings a couple of years ago.

 

In all my dinners with my wife here in Vegas we haven't broken the $600 mark. Guess I never ordered the caviar (inside joke) and we don't drink wine.

 

Le Cirque is in Bellagio and for my money the best table in Las Vegas. Joker57676 you hit it. It's white truffle season so I was on that side of the menu. A ding dong bottle of Montrachet and there you go. And as Bob said, the souffle at Pamplemousse is sensational. Honest to God, you will think you have entered the Way Back Machine and dropped yourself into 1955.

 

I hear my book is at the house waiting for me. I am excited!

We could tour the Neon Museum, Binion's poker HoF, the Atomic Energy Museum, and knock on Wayne Newton's door.

 

Get to the Imperial Auto Collection while you can and reminense of what once was. I heard the inventory is down dramatically already as they prepare to close. Going for one last go around tomorrow. I have a funny feeling it will be closed sooner than the Dec. 30th date.

I was hoping it would find a new place, their was a rumor going around that Derek Stevens new place will have strong elements of Detroit's automotive history, but that's just rumors floating around.

Just to add to the old Imperial Palace Auto Collections post. When I was there last week, I talked with Rob Williams and he said he had no conversations with Derek Stevens about moving it to the new Las Vegas Club, so that wishful thinking I had was just that. Haven't talked to Derek Stevens, but he's easy to find at the Long Bar.

The first I believe was the opening of Oceans 11 at the Fremont theater, Frank here working the ticket booth with Sands' Jack Entratter looking on. Interesting to see Frank packing heat. Ticket price shows .80 cents for adults. Second is from a Lucille Ball tv special, it's in front of the original MGM Grand porte cochere. If you can find it, it's a good show if you missed out on seeing the glamour of what the current Ballys once was. TV Special revolved around Lucille Ball playing an MGM Grand employee, bumbling every opportunity given to her.
