With all this recent discussion about exhausts for F355s, I have a question: I have looked at Larini's website and they make an exhaust for the F355, but no one on here ever seems to talk about Larini exhausts. Does anyone have a Larini system installed on their F355. It seems like everyone either has a Capristo, Tubi, X-OST, or even the occasional Kreissig system, but no Larini. The Larini system looks like a high quality setup, and they are an F-chat sponsor, so they have to be doing something right. By the way, I have a Tubi headers, Hyperflow cats, and a Tubi muffler on my F355 and couldn't be happier with my setup, so this question is more out of curiosity than anything else. Sometimes however I do get this little voice in my head saying "Capristo Level III.....Capristo Level III.....Capristo Level IIII" but I have been trying to stifle that little voice rationalizing that I am already happy with the Tubi muffler.

The 355 I'm buying has a Larini system, I've only driven it once so can't really give much feedback. It's a sweet sounding exhaust, not super loud and no appreciable boom whilst cruising. The top end certainly has a F1 shriek but it's not crazy loud and fruity like a Capristo. Should have mine in a week or two so will report back what I think of it.

I've heard wine connoisseurs describe fine wines with terms like "fruity" but I can't say that I've ever heard the finer points of describing Ferrari exhaust notes with the term "fruity." I'm not exactly sure what that means in terms of what the exhaust sounds like. Are you saying that a Capristo has a "full body," or "oaky overtones," or "a sharp nose?"

I don't know about Kansas, or the UK, but here in California "fruity" means a little light in the loafers, of which the Cap 3 is not.

I have a Larini stainless muffler and straightpipes on the F355 that I just bought. I had a choice from the seller between a tubi, larini, and Capristo 1 I believe? I've heard Tubi's on a few F-cars, but the Larini sounded better to me (not as much low end gurgle, but an intoxicating F1 scream! on the high end. I've only heard Capristo's on a 355 on youtube, so I can't really comment on it. Anyway I'm extremely happy with the Larini and chose it over the others based purely on sound (mainly the Tubi) even though I know the Tubi is actually worth more.

Actually hearing a Capristo equipped 355 in the flesh. Is like discovering your own burning bush with the chorus of 100 horny angels ringing in your ears:D:D
It will make you look at what ever system you have, especially a Tubi and cry:D Don't be fooled, there is no substitute;)

I had a Larini on my Lotus (Exige S) and it was a nice bit, one of the better for that car. They make a mean exhaust for Audis too. Seems to be a good product.

I have a nice Tubi for sale.

I like my Capristo. Even the Cappy 1 is louder than the Tubi. I cannot imagine the 2 or 3. I have to admit that "fruity" is also not a word that comes to mind when I think about it; I am pretty much searching for synonyms of insane.

Yeah, the 3 is pretty gnarley, even in the GTB.

I should remember I'm on a Yank forum eh? ;) By "fruity", I mean the car has a multi-layered sound, it is not monotone. I find tubi's are monotone, and from what I can tell so is the Larini, the Capristo's however are multi-tonal, that's what makes them the best IMO. X-Ost have this quality too.

I had a feeling there was an English to American malfunction, probably one of the more funny ones I've encountered. To call someone's car fruity would be grounds to get your a$$ kicked here in the ol' U S of A. As a kid I was always perplexed by your slang for a cigarette, as I grew up in the Castro district in SF, gay capital of the world.

How much does a typical Larini exhaust cost new for an F355?

No offense to Jeff and his 348 Larini system, but it is not my cup of tea. I find it too screechy and just loud for loudness sake. But then Jeff has a sound system that can over power even open pipes. It is pretty with all that polish and laser cutting, if you like that sort of think. Me, I can take it or leave it. It does look pretty expensive from the on-line pricing, but I have no idea what the dealers really charge.

Now you should probably drop gothspeed a line to inquire about his prototype 355 exhaust whcih replaces the bypass valve and cat and substitutes more efficient cats for a much lighter system than stock. Unfortunately, it will be some time before anyone hears its growl (Hint, hint, goth...), but if the 348 version is an indication, it should be fantastic!

Wow, that is so loud, L3 cappy loud at idle. The Larini on my 355 is nowhere as loud as that. I guess they come in different sound levels too.

I think it sounds pretty frickin' good. It does sound loud, but it's got a real raspy sound that I like.

I would add that the X-ost on the 348 is one of the best I have heard, at least in person. It's soooo hard to tell on a little video. You just cannot capture the dynamic range of the real thing.

I've had a Larini on my 355 Spider for over a year and have driven 6k on it. I am very impressed -having had Tubis on previous cars. Best of all is the note you get when you "press on "above 2800. I'm equally impressed withy the worksmanship - it's laster cut - the weldinmg is quite superb and the polishing is excellent - the Larini is incredibly well put together, and easily beats the worksmanship of anything else I've seen. What a shame it is hidden under that heat shield!! I was one of the first guys in the UK to have this type fitted (post 2007) and my agent is now recommending them to his clients. Can't praise it enough... (BTW no affliation :)_

Are the outer tips on your Larini more discolored than the inner tips (tips closest to license plate)? I have the Larini on my F355 Spider and the inner tips still look as if they're fresh out of the box. The outer tips look the way they should, heat-colored and sooted. My bypass valve works properly; the change in exhaust note is very noticeable. I suspect it's the way the Larini exhaust pipes are made. The inner tips simply 'branch' from the exhaust pipe very near the end of the pipe rather than having two separate pipes exit the muffler on each side. The outer tips are essentially the exhaust pipe, receiving more exhaust flow than the branched-off, inner tips.

    let me know...

I'm curious as to whether I'm the only one with such clean, cool to the touch inner tips.

Interesting question. Dark and I did some detailing on his 348 Spider on Stoogefest and they polished up really well with Blue Max metal polish. His tips are not discolored but have gained a blue metallic mirrored appearance. Very jewel-like.

No -it's exactly the same with me. Outer tips are more discoloured. I only really noticed it when I revved it hard for the first time and saw the soot deposits. Its the design - the bulk of the airflow goes through the outers above R3,000RPM or so when your bypasses are activated. I haven't seen this on other exhausts.

I have a Larini exhaust on my Mondial t Cabriolet. It was way too loud, and emitted a loud groaning sound when cruising about 2200 rpms. I inserted adjustable motorcycle baffles in the exhuast tips, tuned them a bit, and now the car sounds wonderful, almost like a V12. But it was a lot of research finding the baffles and figuring out how to inset them and keep them in place. Wound up with tack weld "dots" on them.
