In Austin, on 360 as you are going twords the 360 bridge headed twords 183, if you look off to the left in the distance, there appears to be a MONSTEROUS HOUSE up on the hillside. It's looks like one of Saddam's palaces. It's not your ordianary Westlake area house. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Some people tell me it's not a house, it's a country club (maybe a Tom Vu joke?), and some say it's some CEO's house.

Anyways, does anyone here know the story on it and how I can get a closer look? I want to take some pictures of it but I don't know that area and don't know how to get to it. My 200mm lens can't really reach it from 360.

For a moment there, I thought it was part of Garriotts' Britannia Manor, which is just down the street and stretches all the way down to the water.

I know that Garriott is building a new "castle" on 60 acres near the river but does it actually attach to the "Manor" via tunnel?

BTW, I saw Garriott on TV doing an interview and he was talking all about his new castle but the weird thing is, he was standing in front of Jeff's Kodosky's castle. So for a long time I thought that the castle I posted photos of was Garriott's.

I've only been on the Manor portion of his property, not in the castle itself. From what I hear, he builts on it here and there, depending on the market fluctuation. And with the latest release of Tabula Rasa, time will tell if his investment went well. It is getting mixed reviews and public saturation for that game is going to take a while.

As for tunnels and such... that is what I hear! Very cool indeed. Would enjoy seeing the ins and outs of it.

The one in San Antonio has about 12 garage stalls, so I would choose it! :D

Since this tread is about Austin Mega homes, any photos of Michael Dell's place or any other interesting Hill Country residents?

Here is some interesting architecture. This house is inspired by Mayan architecture and it took 2 years to design and 5 years to build.
    Located in Austin, Texas
The main walls were built with 2' X 2' granite blocks that were placed with no mortar, grout or cement, just like a real Mayan temple. This house is just under 10,000sq ft. It has a underground tunnel with hieroglyphs. The pool is modeled after a Mayan ball court and the home has 6 giant granite columns that align with celestial events. The sun's rays pass between the columns and rest on exact points marked in stone. Each column weighs 75,000 pounds.
The home was built with more than 6,000 tons of granite and is rumored to have cost about $50 million.
The owner said "it cost more than $10 million and a whole lot less than $100 million".

Some may think it's ugly, but I think it's pretty cool.

BTW, this house is owned by one of the other founder's of National Instruments.

Dell's house is on such a tall hill that you can't get any decent photos from the ground.

Here are some aerial shots and a photo from the statesman.

These pics are from a while back. I've been told that the entire first floor is below ground and has a few interesting features. ;)

Thanks for the photos, it kind of remind me of Austin's very own Bond type supervillain.

I work reasonably closely with Jeff. He's a really nice guy. Still works in an 8 foot by 8 foot cube just like the rest of us.
