hi guys, my love for the thema started at young age when my dad bought a new lancia thema 2.0 16v series two in 1990. In Ireland at that time it was a beauty. We had it for three years and I have some very fond memories. For just a two litre the performance was very impressive. I recently purchased a 1990 2.0 16v for old times sake back home. My dad loves it. Its in storage most of the time. Its a good example with leather seats with a auto trans. It runs sweet and I cant wait to see it the next time I go home. (living in oz the past two years) I have found my-self in constant lancia mode lately and wondered if there was any 8.32 themas in oz? My dream would be to purchase a ferrari red 8.32. There are some nice examples on classic driver and classic cars uk but none in that ferrari red. how many ferrari reds were built and where are they now? Really enjoyed all the posts and pics on this site.
Same here, I have lots of good memories about the Lancia Thema. In the 80's and 90's I owned several as company cars (not the 8.32 though). They were huge fun to drive and I very much liked the styling. Last year I stumbled over a serie 1 2.0IE Turbo and I couldn't resist buying it. Nice Lord blue with black Poltrona Frau leather. It brings back good times. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congratulations on the car Erwin. We also had Themas as company cars back in the mid/late 90's. I have lots of memories, not all good I don't know which one sticks in my mind the most, aquaplaning at 150kph or a work colleague hitting a wild pig, both on the Autostrada between Milan and Turin.
great car beev, very kool! ...so the rear deck spoiler was only manually deployed, or was there an auto/speed function as well?
Are those TBs off of a GSX? I converted my Ferrari 400i to an electronic FI setup using the stock manifold and the skinny injectors from GM. I'm using one WB O2 sensor in each exhaust for closed loop operation. The skinny injectors fit inside the bakelite holders without modification. You might want to take a look at using the stock manifold with electrical injectors that fit it. Injectors have a narrow stream so if you prefer to use regular injectors that are too large for the ports you can use adapters between the injector and the manifold. The GSX manifolds are great if remove the second throttle plate but I'm not sure there worth the effort if the engine already has a viable manifold. Trying to control the second plate adds unneeded complexity. I've been using a MegaSquirt controller. I've found it to be as good or better than the expensive units. TunerStudio software is excellent and makes tuning fairly straight forward. Once word of advice. Install the controller and connect the ignition and wide band O2 sensors before you disassemble. Drive around and log the A/F data so you have a baseline. Good luck with it!
On a recent windy day in Chicagoland, this old Chicago Tribune auto section page blew onto my lawn. The Chicago Tribune from Dec 10, 1990 shows a Lancia Thema 8.32 with "Ferrari Engine" for sale! I heard this model was never imported but I was surprised to see a 3 year old one for sale in 1990. Not cheap either when you compare it to the alternatives at the same dealer. I just thought this was interesting, sorry for bringing up an old thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No problem bringing up old threads that are good. Old ads are always interesting, thanks for posting and welcome to Fchat.
I have an old replica project with thema v-8 and renault 30 gear box/differential. Its been sitting with me for past fifteen years, and now i think i have to open and inspect everything. I was hoping to put 308 carbs on it to make it sound better. Has anyone modify this engine from Bosch injection to weber carbs? I believe inlet manifold is something you can not buy from market, and have to be made specially for this. Are there anyone for parts for this engine, and where? Would be nice to hear from others comment for this kind of projects.
Hi! Jarifinn, do tell more about your project please. I have similar plans, see link from www-button. As for finding parts, I have got some from Superformance in England. Most from 308 QV is the same. I take from your username you are from Finland? I was in contact with a Finn some years ago who put a supercharger in his 8.32. I think his name was Urpolathi. He has film on youtube...
It seems the link is hidden under user name. In any case... http://www.alfapower.nu/viewthread.php?tid=27036
Really enjoyed reading this old thread. You sure the roof is aluminium? Or only the sliding part of the sunroof? Did all the S2's have electronic controlled suspension? Can S1 fronts/lamps be build on a S2? Like the S1 better therefore. If anybody knows of a nice low milage S1, in red or blue, please drop me a PM (Europe that is). Cheerio, Trezerotto
The roof on mine did not display any obvious aluminum properties. I did however not look for any. I would like to think I would have noticed when I took the roof liner out.
If someone needed engine parts, welcome... There is disassembled almost new engine 8.32. Only after the test-bench Lost one piston, I need rods, everything else for sale And the air conditioning compressor http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/467520-restoration-projects-moscow-3.html
Hello, I'm considering buying a Thema 8.32 because I find them fascinating. But I'll only go ahead if I can find spares, even if over the Internet and from several countries. I don't mind paying for expensive spares, but I DO MIND not finding spares at all! Please advise on the situation, as I can't see any online Thema 8.32 spares suppliers... Thanks,
Alex, I have owned a 1988 Thema 8.32 for many years. Mine is the series 1 without cat and 215hp. Yes,many parts are getting very difficult to find but for the most part all of these can be rebuilt by specialists. The difficult parts are : - Waterpump (not the same as 308 QV although engine basically the same) - Shock absorbers/springs (different from any other Thema or Alfa 164) - Window trim all around the car (smoky colour only for the 8.32) - Radiator - Steering rack - Some electronics such as Magneti Marelli ignition box and Bosch ECU Common for many of these scarse parts is that they can be rebuilt. Needed service parts are a coctail between ordinary Lancia Thema/Alfa 164 3.0 and Ferrari 308QV. All chassis parts apart from shocks and steering rack are standard Thema. Brakes are Alfa 164 3.0 same as wheels bearings. There are at least one 8.32-dismantler in Germany who has tons of parts and have had for years. You'll find him on Ebay as "deltahf4wd". Germany is the place to find parts as well as expertise if You need it. Kressel Automobile has dealt with these cars since new and know their stuff. PM me if You have any questions. A
Speaking of difficult parts... Almost forgot the Bosch KE3-Jetronic fuel metering device. Although it closely resembles the one from Ferrari 308QV it has its own part nr. from Bosch. But not to despare The individual parts are sold separately from Bosch and will fit many other 80/90 cars such as Audi/MB/BMW. It is when it all is put together as a package it becomes scarce and difficult to find. For instance the injectors are the same as to MB S-Class 380/420/500. Buy them from Lancia/Ferrari for 150 Euro a piece or buy original Bosch parts from ebay vendors for 50 Euro a piece. This is just one example of how expensive this car can be to own if You trust solely on OEM parts. Same story with almost every part on the car,brakes/chassis/service parts etc... No different story than that for Our Ferraris...

There is a Thema 8.32 shown as coming up for auction in Tacoma, Washington at the end of August. Wonder what the history is on that one?
I was living in Rome "in period" and it was a rare delight to see one back then. The thought of a Lancia with a Ferrari engine was so cool. I'm delighted there are guys keeping these cars running - super cool!
That has to be one of the shortest and least detailed description of any auction lot I've ever seen. No mileage, import details, service or ownership history at all. Maybe that's why the vendors are called 'lucky auctions'......you just have to hope you are!
