Press Release for Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster owners By Genaddi Design Group Effective today Genaddi Design Group, a company in Green Bay Wisconsin in the United States, builders of the Ford GTX1 Roadster have released the following renderings of a removable carbon fiber hard top that they will be producing for the Murcielago Roadster owners. The top is designed to fit easily in the front bonnet of the car and go on and off the car in about one minute making the ownership experience of the Murcielago Roadster much more rewarding. Owning a top that can be stored in the car for easy on and off capabilities allows much more freedom to enjoy your Lamborghini! Lets say you live in Florida, well as you know it can be beautiful one minute and raining the next making it impossible to take the Murcielago anywhere without having a place to duck in when the rain hits. This 6-piece hard top includes the rear glass window, and you have the option of enjoying the car a few different ways. First of course as a Roadster, then as a hard top, a T-top, and lastly as a Targa top. All pieces come finished in either dull or gloss finish of carbon fiber but not painted. Color matching without the car is far too hard so when you get it and want it to match your car take it to your local dealer and they will accommodate you. The top is very light weight and easy to handle for most anyone, it is not difficult to figure out, and uses a proprietary system for keeping it water tight. The top will be available directly from Genaddi Design Group or through participating Lamborghini dealers. It is warranted to be free from defect with a cost of $26,000. If you would like to get on the list for one please contact Mark Gerisch at Genaddi Design Group to place the order. Production will start in May of 2008 and be sold on a first come basis. it looks like it would be a great fitment -- much better than the crazy fabric top that's provided. quite humbling to some of us mere mortals that a top for this car costs about as much as a daily driver... but the drivers of murcie roadsters aren't just mere mortals, are they? = ) in all seriousness, if i had a murcie roadster, i would seriously consider the top, so as to make it usable in climates other than what southern california has...
Thats a really cool idea, I'm looking forward to some real pics since the piece of carbon the swiss dealer Affolter sells through Ital Car Design looks like Quasimodo... http://www.italcardesign.ch/page2.html
I would reserve judgment until it's more than an artist's concept. I'll agree that it looks good but I'm a little concerned by the "about one minute" installation time. It has 6 pieces. The Diablo Roadster has one piece and takes longer than a minute to install/remove.
I was wondering when someone would question the price. There's nothing wrong with trying to maximize your investment on a new product (obviously a very limited market) but it seems like something that should cost a few thousand $ at most. Of course if it is truly a thing of wonder that deploys at the touch of a button and is impervious to all leaks.
I agree....I absolutely hate the fabric top.....but I'd learn to like it if I have to dish out $26k for any kind of roof. Especially if you still have to install it by hand and not the flick of a switch. Forget it...no way. The fabric top of the roadster is the only reason for me not trading in my coupe for one. Awesome looking car without the top though.
...I think Lamborghini should shell out and buy every Roadster owner one of these. Considering the appalling joke of a roof they sold the car with.....this would be a good way to make amends.
Well theres not enough Murci roadsters out there to justify mass production so these will probably be hand made and hand finished and regardless of the retail price they arent going to sell a lot. That means jacking the srp up to make sure they at least breakeven on their conservative sales estimates. Makes sense to me
The price is indeed pretty high but then again so are the carbon packages, E-gear etc etc. For those who don't live in the "sunny States" it is a very nice alternative. For me the Roadster becomes a car I can use whole year long and this wasn't the case at all with the original soft top. This top will bring me around 4-5 months of extra driving fun ... so the price is worth it for me. The 100mph speed limit does not apply for this roof.
and the quality was nothing like you are seeing in these computer animated photos. I will reserve judgement until I see an actual production example of this top, but I am very skeptical after seeing the GTX1 in person. JJB
So I take it that you were not very impressed with their build quality? Do you think it's worth the 26k price that they're asking if the quality was top notch? I still think it's way too high. Make mine out of plain fibreglass for around $5000-$7000 and forget the carbon fibre...and I'd be happy.
I agree that this is something that every Roadster owned always needed, but I also agree that the price is very very high for the carbon product of these proportions. I know that composite materials are expensive nowdays but I think they are mostly charging for their patent. It is great invention (especially if it can be put on in one minute), but I don't think that people will easily take their money out of the pocket. Ok, maybe those who had unpleasant encounter with big grey clouds will think different
Did someone on this board finally bought & fitted a hard top on his Murcielago Roadster ? Which brand ? Satisfaction report ? Price ? thanks in advance
There HAS NOT yet been a truly successful Murci hard top deployment. You hear about one here, one there but never a consistent real product. Really kind of puzzling since everybody *****es about the toupee, and people owning the cars can afford say a $7,500 top solution, but there's no solution in sight. You would think one of these guys that work in carbon fiber would attempt it. If I ever bought one, I have resigned myself to fab one up for my own use (I'm an Engineer who uses AutoCAD).
There is info on hard top options in the ***************** a lamborghini forum and the best option looks to be exotic composites 4 piece which fits in the boot, but there might be a question over them being ok and legitimate? has any one got any options or info ? http://www.**********************/vbforum/f46/murci-roadster-hardtop-11936-new/ Thanks
