I saw this posted on our Fairfax County Fire Department page. Appears driver is ok, great news! The car was destroyed. From Gallows Road and International Drive overnight. A Lamborghini hit a concrete light pole and was cut in half. The back end was on fire and quickly extinguished by the crew from Engine 413, Dunn Loring. One adult driver was treated for minor injuries by Medic 413. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Washington ComPost had an article on this crash this morning, and a lot of the comments were why the "adult driver" wasn't identified.
So who was driving it ? Those are some solid poles in the second photo. I don’t see a road close by .........
I'm at a complete loss as to how you could do that in front of the Neustar/Capital Grill/Fidelity Investments building. Additionally, there are no concrete light poles only steel. Who can keep their name out of the news when they wreck a $400k car on a street you cannot go more than 30 miles per hour on? Image Unavailable, Please Login
My guess? Local professional athlete. But nothing about a DUI, so probably just stupidity. Lucky as all get out. D
When everything today has 500-600 hp, you can do 100mph anytime, any place. You only need a few hundred feet to accomplish this type of wreck in a modern car.
Still nothing more about the driver or the accident in the press. It just is unusual for a media obsessed area to not have the details of the time of the accident and who the driver was. Nothing on the Lambo boards either. I agree that anyone can wreck a car but wrecks like this usually involve alcohol, stupidity or a combination of both. The other odd thing is allegedly he was alone in the car and apparently wasn't cited be Fairfax police. From what I know of the area he had to be crossing Route 7 headed to International drive at a high rate of speed....then he lost control and the car slid sideways into the end of 3' concrete wall outside the Fidelity investments office on the first floor of the building. That wall cut the car in half, sending the engine and transmission to one side of the wall and the front of the car ended up on the other side of the wall. No question he is lucky....another 24" forward and the passenger compartment would have been cut in two.
Here is the WTOP article: https://wtop.com/fairfax-county/2018/04/officials-lamborghini-split-in-2-in-crash-with-light-pole/ Agreed, weird there is not more information on this one.
I would think that the media would be able to access the police report to ID the driver. An accident of this magnitude indicates that some law was being violated.
Just trust me when I say, FFX police are very very lax in their ticket writing and really don't care about doing much these days.
Funny how so many don't get that.. they, and numerous other exotics are designed to separate the "capsule" from the part that will typically burn etc....
Must be a nice balanced and blueprinted engine to be able to sit upright on only 2 wheels like that...
Not implying anything other than geographical location. Note that VW’s North American corporate headquarters is just down the road from Tysons in Herndon.
Famous people will be the first named. Could be someone with relationships in local gov. Also I bet he was speeding through the intersection and got airborne as the street dips. It just take a little bit at speed.
Nobody has owned up to yet on the Lambo boards. I'm hoping the valet guys Capital Grill have the scoop.
