Is there a list somewhere that shows all the colors available in that era (maybe even samples)? The list on LamboCars only has a few. Thanks

    Steve,

Id love to help but youve got to narrow your scope. The entire 60s and 70s is a lot to cover so what specifically are you looking for?

    Youre killing me Steve...

Period late 60s/early 70s paints as used by Bertone for Lamborghini SpA:

Argento (Silver) Bertone code # 2-443-224
Argento Indianapolis metallizzato (Indianapolis Silver metallic) Bertone code # 2-443-009
Bleu Medio (Medium Blue) Bertone code # 2-446-013
Bleu Miura (Miura Blue) Bertone code # 1-446-101
Bleu Tahiti (Tahiti Blue) Bertone code # 1-463-177
Bleu Notte (Night Blue) Bertone code # 2-443-681
Giallo Flay (Fly Yellow), Giallo Miura (Miura Yellow), both share Bertone code # 2-449-100
Giallo Sole (Sun Yellow) Bertone code # not specified. I beleive this is the color some refer to as 'mustard' such as Bill Marriott's Miura is liveried.

As far as a burgundy color there was:
Rosso Granada metallizzato (Granada Red metallic) also known as Rosso Rubino metallizzato (Ruby Red metallic) with Bertone paint code # 2-463-178.

I have some samples but they are not available for posting unfortunately and even then they would not be useful for reproduction.

The actual paint manufacturer was PPG Italver-Pittsburgh paints in Milan and the paint type was most definately 'lacquer'.

Actually I have several color charts from both the late 60s and early 70s but like I said when you post them the representation is useless for matching...

    Joe and Fred,
Thanks for the colors. I will be doing a bare metal repaint on my Jarama.

Just wondering what colors do you guys like to see the Lambo 2+2's in?

Here's my 2 cents. I've only seen two Jaramas in person, and of course, several more in photos. I like any of the dark colors on the Jarama. It has a bit of a snarky look to the front and the yellow I think would look particularly garish. My vote would be for the night blue, Tahiti blue, or the garnet red. I dislike the silvers intensely. Even black is a nice color for both Jarama and Espada. I hosted a visit this sat and there was a black Espada that would knock you out.

Silver with black interior is the best. 'Course, that's what mine is so I may be biased, but do get a lot of compliments.

Black can be nice too, but that's pretty rare.

    Cheers,

    Fred

PS: Sackey will probably say orange...

Yes, midnight metallic blue is best on the Jarama. It's a stunning car, and in that color probably the best Lambo ever made.

    Cheers,

    Fred

    Hey Fred!

Did you get a Jarama? Are you going to the Concorso this Friday? I was going to come out to SJC, but can't shake a big job in TX. Cya

Actually, here is what Sackey would say: if one must retore or repaint, for heaven's sake do it in the car's one-and-only original livery. Now thats what Sackey would say...

Here is a Lamborghini color reference for all to use from a 1979 PPG listing. This should be great start for understanding the more common paint colors that were used. Does anyone have other Lamborghini color charts from Italver, PPG or the like? This particular chart may also be available at Vintage Lamborghini Garage forum in a larger format.

    Hope this will help.

    why though joe
your not the original buyer so why stick to the original livery - there was choice back then so why cant there be choice today ?

hell personally i dont think that you even need to stick to the paint colours originally available at the time - but thats just me.

i dont feel the need to make sure everything little thing is just as it left the factory either.
standards have improved since the 60's (and prices have risen too) is it a bad thing if your restoring a car to make sure it has good paintwork, windows that open an close at a speed greater than a snails pace and electrics that work etc ?
in the uk at least a lot of these type of cars had new interiors, paint etc early on in their lives as the new owners didnt like the poor standards of the originals

your views would be welcome (everyone, not just Joe)

Great help as usual. I don't see a lot of oranges or reds on that list. Joe's information indicates that my car was "Rosso Acrillico", which is not on the list you reference. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I agree with all of this. In fact, if I were to have a car restored "ground up", I would even go further. Modify things that are not seen outside the engine. DLC and other coatings, connecting rods w/ cap screws instead of bolts & nuts, modern pistons, cams, etc. Modern paints that are superior to the laquers used in the past.

Alberto, I see the chart as just a 1979 reference to be used with a dozen other references to achieve a satisfactory color. I think developing a period color using just the numbers and names might only lead to frustration, but maybe a good start. I would ask anyone on this forum for a current mix formula for any period Lamborghini color, not code numbers, but an actual mix formula. Lime green, orange, yellow, red, and white would be the most popular Miura period colors. Any vintage Lambo painters have thoughts on this?

An even more valuable formula would be the silver used on the wheels and rockers, from the primer sealers on up.

i do have a note to quote from Paul Hoey and it says -
I found my note on the Miura lime green paint. There is no code, but this is how you make it dead accurate. Dupont Chroma Premier SpectraMaster 1 Qt. Mix #GS101 With 1.2 parts 831J (L/S Fast Green) and 20 parts 841J (Yellow) added to GS101. Regards Paul Hoey

maybe other formulas can be shared?

Anyone have any pix of orange Lambo's from this period ?

It would be great if people shared the actual modern color formulas with everyone.

i posted another period color chart with samples this time, that i received from Bryan, thank you very much.
    go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/VintageLambo/
    log in
    click on Links
    click on P400 parts list...
click on Tav - vintage Lamborghini paint
scroll down to the blue background table for Espada
    click on this PPG graphic.
You should find a nice pdf file with a few of the period colors with color samples for Espada and Urraco S.
i would hope that others can post or share other paint info for this era as well. Better yet, current formulas, for these vintage apps, from a current paint supplier - Dupont, Sikkens, PPG, RM, or several others.
    best regards
    Craig

    Chaos,

I agree with your position for you.
But I also agree with mine for me.
Neither can be 'correct'. I have my opinion or view and thats what works for me. Please pursue what works for you by all means. Ive restored cars in non-original colors already (such as SV 5064) and it didnt work for me. I am much more satisfied with having restored 4884 in its original livery and thats what works for me. There really not much more to this subject matter than 2 words: Personal preference. I know what mine is :)
