current porsche owner looking to join the ranks of ferrari ownership. i'm in rockford and have visited both LFSC and continental autosports. can you guys (or gal's) give any positive or negative expericence's with these two dealerships? i'm sure they are both fine dealerships, but if i'm looking to start a long term comittment to a ferrari dealership, is one superior to the other?

    thank you.

yes, in my opinion one is better than the other. see Tyler Dean or Ashley Misner at Lake Forest Sportscars. i have never cared for the arrogant attitude from the Continental sales staff. therefore, i have purchased two cars at LFSC and am looking for the third.

Another vote for LFSC. Nice folks...don't look like they are going to hit you if you want to touch their cars...

I haven't been to continental in a while though, so this isn't a direct comparison.

IMO - I would look/ask for the best independent in the Chicagoland area - that is who you want to build a relationship with... Dealers a a must for warranty work - but for the f-car maintenance that is out of warranty - get yourself a good independent.

And for buying - look at ferrariads - you will get a better price from those great members of this board.

Can you tell I had a few good dealer experiences with my past f-car :)

On another thread recently I asked about Continental, and got only positive responses from purchasers!
My recent experience was with Keith @ Continental; although I didn't buy his car, I have only good things to report on his communications and attitude. He even thanked me for asking about his car, after I bought from another dealership (closer to home).
    Highly recommended!

You must be talking about a different Continental!!!

I've never bought a car from them, yet the sales staff is as friendly as can be everytime I'm there; and at events.

Lonnie, Keith and Dave....they're all great guys.

And Randy in parts and Gary in service, there isn't an arrogant one in the bunch.

Maybe you're the one that acts arrogant, and it's a turn off to them.

Just a guess, no insult intended!

Back when I was just in my "Ferrari Dreamer Days"....And,because I've lived in This,(Western 'Burbs) area for most of my life. I've stopped in Continental since the mid-late 70's,(my Teen Years) and ever since,(or whenever they first started out at that location, anyway). To look...To Dream....."Someday....someday....." And,Keith has ALWAYS been very nice to me...even back when I had Long Hair...:) So have everyone else there. Also,at the Auto Show in the Ferrari booth. The Service Crew. IMO,a great bunch of Folks all around. I just own a 308....just starting out in the World of Ferrari....But,that doesn't seem to make a difference. I met Mr. Weinberger, and he was very Gracious as we discussed Auto Racing....He appears to be very passionate about the Sport.

And,when the time to become an actual Ferrari Owner finally came. My First thought was to check with them. However, they did not have what I was looking for at that particular time. So,I did find my Car at LFSC. Whom,by the way, were Also very nice to me...No Attitudes. Regardless of whether I have a 308,an Enzo,or a Vintage Car. And,I have used both Shops for Service, and had a great experience. Mr. Mancuso was also very gracious to us when we purchased our car,and talked with us,and Welcomed us to the World of Ferrari.

So,all that I can say from my own Personal experience is that I would Buy another Car,or use Either location for Service. And.lets not forget the Guys at Fox Valley Motorcars. Every time I go there to "Oggle the Ladies....:)" I am always greeted by the Friendly staff, including our Buddy, Mike. And,they always answer all questions, and tell me about the cars that I am drooling over....:)

I do only live about 5 Minutes from Continental, though,so would most likely check with them first.for a Car or Service.

no, same Continental indeed! and if you read my post, i didn't say anything negative of the service staff, just the sales staff! i have lived in the area my entire life and it's a shame that they didn't get my business, nor about 4 people i have also grown up with. i can understand if you say it is perhaps i but 5 people can't all be wrong....and besides, how come we haven't rubbed LFSC the wrong way!

I get my 308 serviced at LFSC.
    They are wonderful.

What are you looking at? New, Old, somewhere in the middle?

BTW, I occasionally work in Rockford....

Both Continental and LFSC enjoy a great reputation here. For independents, most peeps also seem to like Fox Valley Motors quite a bit. In contrast, Luxury Motors is held in rather deep disdain. As an example, my Bentley is going to FVM for service although Luxury is an authorized Bentley dealer and only about 4 miles away from me.

i wonder why a franchised bentley dealer in the third largest metropolitan area would have such a negative reputation on f-chat. i've visited bentley gold coast and the facility was facinating. the salesmen weren't rude (but i wasn't buying) i just wonder why luxury motors is run the way it is and can still sell the bentley marquee? i can't imagine someone paying in excess of $230,000 for an arnage if the dealership is run as as described on this site.

I have never bought a car at Continental, but thier sales staff has been courteous and professional whenever I looked at one of thier vehicles. Continental's service has a sterling reputation, as does LFSC.

For independents, you should try Al at Italia Automobili, 1908 Willow Road in Northbrook (847 480-8980). He works on all Italian cars, and his hourly rate is 60% of the factory autorized dealers. Great guy too.

I recommend Lake Forest without qualification. Tyler Dean is the consumate professional. And their service department is excellent. Drexel and Lee are nice guys who go to great lengths to make the customer happy.

    Good luck! :)

Apparently they're notorious for misrepresenting cars they have for sale.

It sounds like they're not that interested in having repeat business, they just want to make the fast buck now.

I won't even buy parts for my Rolls from them!

I don't have an answer to your question, but so far it appears you're the only one that feels the way you do; at least in this forum.

Luxury has a slew of lawsuits pending against them. I think they've used up all the decent attorneys in DuPage County because they have some real losers representing them.

I wish Bentley would yank their dealership and give it to someone I'd trust my car with.

I highly recommend Continental also, been taking my 328 to them for the last couple years. I have heard good things about LFSC, but never had any experience, too far away for me.

Next month i am going to Italy and the guys at Continental (Scott in Service and Dave in Sales) was about to get me a tour of the Ferrari Factory in Modena. They didn't have to do that, but did, the little extra is a nice attribute.

Of course, after i return from Italy next month, i will post a thread on the Ferrari factory, but, won't be able to take pictures i've heard, maybe of the outside though????

You can bring a camera along and it is worth it: The waiting area has a Ferrari body on the wall and once you walk through the entrance door you'll see the F1 in a metal cage (a piece of art). That you are allowed to fotograph, then you have to put the camera away as you go inside.

I didn't take any pics on the inside, but don't really understand what the fuzz is all about. It's just a factory, there are no trade secrets you could spy on. But then again it might be an Italian thing: None of the museums allow pictures to be taken, very unusual (in other countries including the US you can't take pics of a special exposition, but you can of a the permanent collection). However I did break that rule a few times...
    :)

What is much more important though: You are allowed to take pictures in the Galleria (Ferrari's museum in Maranello) and there it is really worth it. Make sure you don't miss anything including the side room downstairs which has the oldest Ferraris in the world, it looks almost like a church btw.

Also check out some of the local eateries, they all have F1 inspired menus, really cool. And good luck, maybe you even get to see the F1 team testing.

I've been visiting LFSC forever. They have always been VERY gracious (even when I had no chance of buying one). I now have a 308 that I did not buy from them, but from a customer of theirs. Ther were incredibly helpful. Tyler Dean is terrific. I have absolutely no reservations recommending them. They have the opportunity to turn off customers every day. Instead, they end up turning them on.

That said, Tyler himself told me Continental is a reputable dealership as well. I haven't been there, but when was the last time one dealer said something nice about another.

    LFSC is a class act.
