Upon the recommendation of mswiek and others here on F-chat I took the TR to Competizione & Sports Cars in Gaithersburg, MD. My thanks to them for the endorsement and introduction!

I was very impressed with the amount of time Richard spent with me the very first time I walked in off the street, and I was equally impressed with the facility. I was captivated by seeing in person cars which I had previously seen only on TV and in periodicals.

I got to meet Fernando and Anna, and Martin, and chatted with another technician from whom I did not get a name. Everyone there was very courteous, and did not mind my interest in the cars and in the tasks they were performing during the handful of occasions I stopped by to visit prior to driving my car home on at the end of that week.

As experts and professionals in their field, I never perceived that the guys ever talked down to me, but rather, were happy to impart to me tokens of their knowledge and to enjoy our mutual enthusiasm for these fine cars. Richard took time to explain to me what he was doing and the rationale for doing it. I believe that he truly enjoys teaching customers as much as I appreciated caring for informed patients, (and now: clients).

The car badly needed new tires and alignment. The left rear tire was a safety hazard, and was the obvious cause of recently noticed odd road mannerism. Embarrassingly, I think even I should have been less clueless about such a thing! All fluids were changed out, including a properly performed cooling system flush and bleed; and a necessary rewiring of the passenger side cooling fan and of the cyl.1-6-bank fuel pump were done.
Check out the cool pictures, and allow me to report that the car drives much better now.

I could have gone 20 minutes up the road to the dealership but chose to drive 2 hours, mostly against traffic, to take it to “Competizione”; and I plan to go back. There are some other things which I will need to tend to once I have the availability of funds for the parts and services, but thankfully none of them are safety issues. I personally thanked Richard whilst appreciating his cognizance of the difficult economic times we are all in, and/or that amongst those of us who have cars like these, not all can manage to have a ‘card on file’.

Also, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our resident technicians and knowledgeable enthusiasts (and I think you all know who you are!:)) who regularly contribute to we owners who are genuinely dedicated to the proper operations of our cars. I know that I have benefitted from this knowledge base as well.

Saw your car up there. beautiful color combination. I want one. Competizione truly is the finest Italian repair facility in the baltimore, washington area. well worth driving the extra distance. Even for something minor, like a PPI.

Thank you for your kind words.

Hey wetpet, your PM box is full, so let me post this here:

Are there any local get togethers these upcoming weekends? I happen to know that the Gaithersburg Vette Club is having their big annual cruise-in at Criswell this Sat. Do you know if there will be FChatters participating?
Being new to the area, I would love to get out and meet people. I have never been this proximal to so many car enthusiast groups.
    Take care!

    Hello Jungathart:

On my way to work, I saw you fueling your fantastic TR near Competizione just before your dropped it off Monday morning. I really like that color on the TR. My 308 was there when your TR was being serviced as well.

I was the only F-Chatter at last year's G-Burg Vette Club's Annual Cruise-In, and my car was "Class Winer" among a variety of sports car types. Due to so much work, I won't be able to attend this weekend.

I agree with your thread - Competizione is really a fantastic place to take your ride, and meet fellow F-car owners. I'm fortunate to work in the area, and I always look up on the hill to see what's over there.

Thank you for your compliment. I have always admired the 308 lines (esp. GTB) Congrats on your trophy as well. Hope to get to meet you sometimes, and be sure to honk the next time you see me refueling. :)

    Jungathart -

Will do! BTW- kinda funny I said, "Class Winer" since I meant "Winner" oops! (Freudian parapraxis? You tell me :) )

As for Competizione and Sports Cars, they are quite a specialty repair facility! I can see why so many cars are transported from far away just to have Competizione service them. I'm glad you decided not to drive up the road to FoW, so you could experience the personal attention Richard, Fernando and their expert team give to their customers, friends, and potential customers. That shop is a real magnet - clean with sophisticated equipment, and lots of exotic examples of fine Italian machinery, all run by friendly experts.

    Take care!

Minico - I thought about this too. It's for a great cause, and if I didn't have to work (Yep, Sunday), I'd join you. Maybe I can drop by later on. PM your cellphone to me, okay?
