sat down for dinner, manager came up and said valet can't get the keys out of my car! I went down and the key won't budge, can't even start the car.

Any ideas or tricks? I'm not going to be able to get the car out of here without towing it

Any steering weight on the lock?
Try relieving the force on the steering lock by slightly rotating the steering wheel. If its that you'll feel the force in one direction at the wheel and no possibility of movement in the other direction of rotation. Just turn the wheel slightly feeling it against the load and the key should come loose as the force comes off the steering lock.
Otherwise I hope someone else has a better idea or experience.

Keys stuck in the ignition? I think the root cause is that you should have inserted just one. Cram two or three in there & they're bound to bind up!

Forgive me - just one of those days...

Only other thought is a locksmith. It is after all just a key and tumbler set up.
    Otherwise its the flatbed truck.
In my country only the manufacturers dealers can fit a replacement lock. Govt regs as part of a car theft crack down.

It happened to me on one of my Mondial 8's, I had to fight it for a while (45 minutes one time), and it eventually turned, but be prepared for it to happen again, the whole assembly needs replacing. Not too expensive if I remember correctly. Spray some WD40 in there with the key in, it may help it out.

In 308/328 it is usually (but not always) the electrical switch in the back of the ignition lock. It is a bit of a hassle but it can be removed with a smallish straight blade screwdriver. Once out if the key can then turn the wheel can be unlocked and the appropriate wires jumped together to hot wire the car.

If it turns out to be the switch be careful who you buy a replacement from. One of the major US suppliers of Ferrari parts is selling Chi Com knock offs that are absolute trash.

He burned me with one of those pieces of crap.

It is not a dealer part.

It's not a unique problem. This is the fifth or sixth time I have seen this happen. Good luck. Everybody I know got theirs out eventually and without it being much of a big deal.

    It's a BMW part <>$100USD.
Buy only the SWF brand, made in Germany. Buy two, because you will do this again, and they are becomming rarer with time. I hope that this of some value.

Just to highlight the usefulness of all this info - had the exact same problem and that is now fixed thanks to this thread. Not easy on my car as the roll cage and fire extinguisher plumbing also was in the way.
For those changing the switch, note the slit is a bit bigger on one side than the other, to avoid mis installation,

Now I think I have made a wiring error because when the key is turned and the starter engaged, the engine just churns. However, when you allow the key to spring back the car starts! One other thing I noticed is that when you turn the key the fuel gauge goes down and then back up when the car starts.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Terminals on the back of the switch are numbered. If you have a 308 compare to the wiring diagram in the back of the owners manual. If you have a 328 look on line at the wiring diagram.
