Perhaps Maximum Security will be looking for revenge in both the Preakness and Belmont.

I looked over my posts and realized I had said above "One horse I have not mentioned besides my picks of Roadster & Tacitus is Maximum Security, he has trained lights-out and should be watched".

But even if I had changed my pick it wouldn't have done me any good!

They say he is out for all 3 races, back in the summer.

The race was pretty good and the weather was fair. It only rained hard for about 45 minutes beginning around 5pm. I left as soon as the race ended so I didn't even get to see any of the "controversy" afterward LOL. I bet on Tacitus and lost.

Do they know how many bets (or how much money was won) on the horse they ended up awarding 1st place to? Imagine being one those people that bet on that horse

This will go down in history as perhaps the worst Derby ever:

    - Favorite Omaha Beach was scratched, this is a horse who loves running in the mud as the Arkansas derby showed, is believed to be 4-5 lengths better than Maximum Security and would have prevailed easily sitting on the front end.

    - Sloppy track conditions, of all the years of sloppy track Derbys the kickback this year was the worst I've seen, horses off-the-pace were absolutely covered in slop and talented horses that happened to not like the mud like Roadster & Tacitus had no motivation to try.

    - Controversial judges decision that will be disputed for evermore.

Here is my personal feeling after having watched thousands of races over 40 years and having given this a few days to sink in:

Maximum Security won the race fair & square, he hardly bothered War of Will, shying out a few lanes obviously unintentionally, and even then his number should have stayed up as War of Will didn't finish in the top 4 (he finished 8th), period.

Even if this were the 8th race for maiden claimers at the Fairgrounds in Louisana on a Wednesday night, the result should have remained the same.

It proves why reinstatement of the real winner is the right outcome.

    Joe,

I agree but how would they handle all the bets that have been paid out? That would be unprecedented at least to my knowledge.

Yes, stewards never asked the question of why did MS change lanes. He changed lanes because he was being interfered with and tripped from behind. After the altercation and significant loss of speed, he ran away from the field. The winning horse crossed the finish line first. The officials made an awful, knee jerk, incorrect call. Barbara Borden should never be allowed near at a horse stall, let alone a horse track....

Meanwhile I just had to share this amazing overhead image of what it is like to be in the gate.

Jockeys are amazing athletes and when you remember they weigh @ 115 lbs, you can see it's tight in there!

That gate guy needs to move over a bit though because 2 seconds later horse & rider explode out of there.

The image shows Improbable & Irad Ortiz just before the Kentucky Derby start

The year of a disappointing triple crown continues at the Preakness with one of the jockeys getting tossed at the start.

Some top horses from the Derby weren’t even in the Preakness. Based solely on emotion, this just feels like a disappointing year in horse racing. I could never identify a favorite horse this year. None of them felt special. I guess I’ve been spoiled the past few years with horse like California Chrome and Justify.

Definitely a bummer there was not a Run for the Roses today.

Did anyone watch the virtual derby of all the Triple Crown winners?

Just simply, the greatest performance ever by a race horse.
