Just got home. [Feeling much better BTW.] The bad news is I don't see any package with pedals - I'm hoping a neighbor across the street grabbed them off the step & stashed them away. Hopefully, I'll see him later today. However, I'm still a long way away from being "race ready" - Much more free practice needed here yet! Having said that, does anyone want to nominate a car or two & a track or two to get us going? Cheers, Ian
Easy tracks- The Glen Lime Rock Road America Monza Mosport Hard Tracks- Bathhurst (impossible as I call it) Sebring Road Atlanta VIR Cars- MX-5 (cup or roadster for all you damn newbies) It all depends what you guys own. Star Mazda? I refuse to drive the skippy, I hate it! I'm all for sports cars or prototypes as well. I have almost everything so you guys make the choice.
Everyone should have the MX5 or Caddy. Now they have given us the old Indycar free. We could start with the Mx5 and then move to other cars. I am driving the Ruf C Spec exclusively since April of this year so need to practice a lot on the standard car set. Track wise we can add Laguna to the mix as it is free. I am Sameer Rao on iracing. Friend me! What do you all go by?
Lotus 49 is tough car for newbies - I tried it out recently and was spinning out pretty easy. MX5 is a great option for slow/short tracks - it will be a real drag on VIR because of the slow top speed. You probably have time to get a soda on the straight
It's tough for veterans as well! VIR is fun in any car, especially the grand course. I'm partial as that's my home track, but I'm up for whatever. One of the most fun is the Williams f1 at Laguna Seca, but that might be throwing a newbie into the deep end with lead weights on their ankles.
So why don't we do the Caddy at the Glen? Moderate spec series car so no setups required Decently easy yet challenging at the same time?
No lead weights needed here! However, isn't "subtlety" a much needed feeling here? I'm probably very mistaken, but something appeals to me about a Williams F1 car round Laguna - Take it "easy", gently, get it balanced etc. A Caddy OTOH!?..... Do they offer school buses too? Cheers, Ian
I see stars when you open up the car setup menu for the Williams F1 racer. It's like a scene from Space Odyssey Even the Ruf is slightly too much for me - give me some brake balance, wings, shocks and dampers. and tire pressures. That is enough my peanut sized brain.
Does anyone remember the free car list? I'm down for Laguna, we just need a car Is Daytona free? That would be awesome with an open wheel Edit http://www.iracing.com/leagues/pricing.php Found it. That's why I suggested the Caddy or the Mazda. Something free.
I'm good with whatever. Someone make a decision and we can get some hosted practices up to see where everyone stands
Well, for better or worse, I'm trying the MX5 @ Laguna. And I'm struggling!..... [Rob; no sign of your pedals here, but the guy I think probably "took them in" is AWOL right now too - Hopefully, I'll find 'em soon!] Anyway, once I turned the brake knob to 11, I can now slow down! I still *suck*, but may do a few more hours later...... Cheers, Ian
You owe me $4,723.00 for expenses and fees. Keep practicing ill start running the mx5 at Laguna also and well run together one day.
I'm just hoping your pedals show up sometime soon!..... I was hoping my 'neighbor' may have come knocking by now, but not as yet. Obviously, all I'm doing right now is following 'the line' (the green, white & red is very nice!). Then if (& I admit it's a big *if*!) I survive into a second lap it pops a leading 'ghost car' ahead of me - I think anyway. Figure I'll keep going solo until I can consistently beat my ghost! Cheers, Ian
Ha! Just found this thread. Why do you hate the skippy? Just curious... I had to change the setup a bit to make it handle like they do in real life. They are very difficult cars to drive well in my experience. By default in the game, they understeer a lot. My current setup for Skippy: Front brake bias set to 57-60% Let out 1-2PSI from the tires Rear ARB set to 6-7 Reduce fuel to 3.1 gal - enough to do a race and cuts down on weight some to set fast times ...yes they really are that touchy; but very rewarding : ) Either way, I would be interested in some races potentially if you guys worked out the details.
Ill try your settings but they just annoy me. I like speed and grip not slow and slide. I have a heavier right foot so i tend to step the rear out more than i should and lose time. i always have to set myself up for understeer. PM me your race name or post it here whichever you want to do. Even if its a few of us it'll be fun.
Gotcha...yah you need to be slipping them just enough, but not too much to be fast - so I can see why you are not crazy about them. Have to use the brakes to point them, turn them, and carry speed/stabilize them at various times. Have to be very delicate transitioning from brake to throttle or the rear steps out. My settings will make them twitchier, so beware : ) PM sent.
You've been messaged. I'm going to try and setup a hosted session this weekend. I'll post it here probably saturday or sunday so anyone can join and we can compare times.
I haven't been near the sim for almost a week now. I was going to try the recommended Caddie, but don't think I'll be ready for anything other than solo testing for a while yet. I'll post some times once I've posted some! Cheers, Ian PS - Rob, check written, but not yet mailed.... I haven't forgotten!
I assume you are Ian Anderson3 in the game? Let me know and will send you a friend request. I've only ever used the game solo as well for training...
Yep, that's me. But I'm away from the 'puter till next week. Should be able to put in some time soon. Cheers, Ian
