Her last tutorial to the world will be "how to make Julia in the hole"

    Tasteless, I know (pun intended!).

She was a great chef though - it was inspiring to see her still kicking along on TV at such a ripe old age.

Marq - one more post for the lucky number. She was original and always made you think you could do it.

she'll be missed. i remember when i was a little kid - we used to watch her show. even her later shows paired with other chefs - and her series with that other french guy - we're a lot of fun.

two things have always stuck in my mind from her show.

the first is her quite liberal use of wine in her cooking, and the penchant to have a glass along with. she clearly loved consumption as well as creation!

the second was her commentary on how beef should be cooked. i remember a show where she was preparing something or other and it came time to put it in the oven. the question was for how long. she stopped everything - looked very sternly at the camera and informed the viewers that beef was to be eaten medium-rare, and if you didn't like that, well, you should choose another food then.

    :)

    RIP, ma'am.

    doody.

this will date me, but does anyone remember the 1970s Dan Akroyd-SNL bit he did where he imitates Julia - gets trashed on the red wine, severs one of his fingers while cooking . . . .? "save the gizzards . . ."

Rick James and Julia Childs in the same week - never thought I'd say those two names in the same sentence.

"Oh, now I've done it. I've cut the dickens out of my finger."

SNL site used to host the video footage - now - nothing. Possibly the funniest skit ever done on the show. I mean, all you have to do is warble your quote "...save the gizzards," and most any hipster near our age will be there.

A niece said Julia Child died in her sleep at her home in California this morning "with family and friends and her kitten." Julia Child had been suffering from kidney failure, and they all knew it was time for her to go, but one can only hope it was relatively painless in her final moments. Great, great fun to watch her doing what she loved - in her own little way.

Amongst other things she was a spy and inventor of shark repellent, correct? I heard that somewhere.
