I recently picked up this original 1955 Salinas race program. This is the race James Dean was headed to with his Porsche 550 on that fateful day. I have seen very few of these programs online so I’m not sure if any of the contents have been discussed before. James Dean’s Porsche 550 is not listed but perhaps these programs were printed in advance of the race and would explain the absence. Additionally, there is also of gap of race car entries from 126 to 131. Was Little Bastard’s “130” James Dean's entry number for the Salinas race?

There’s only one Porsche 550 entry listed, No. 12, E.C. Beagle, Sacramento. John von Neumann’s Porsche Spyder was No. 11.

The program is in an amazing state of preservation. It would be interesting to know how many of them survived. The Jaguar D type advertisement is very cool.

Dean Jeffries painted it on per James Dean’s request, but apparently in washable paint because Dean wasn’t yet a licensed racer so had no assigned car number. Not sure why “130” specifically…

Correcting myself: Lee Raskin says that the number 130 was assigned on his SCCA application for Salinas.

Thanks. This explains why "130" is a gap in the program. I've always wondered about the "washable paint" term for a car (seems more suited for house wall paint).

The progam's back cover is an MG ad. The $2195 price puts the Porsche 550 Spyder price in perspective.
