You're right - it won't be called F70, but it won't be called F150 either. F150 is the internal codename for the project just like F140 was the internal codename for the Enzo project. F140 also ended up being the designation for the Enzo's V12 engine so a very safe bet the same will be true for Ferrari's new supercar. >8^) ER
Didn't they already try to name a car (I think it was F1) the F150 which resulted in them being sued by Ford? -Gil
That is NOT the new cars name. The California is the F149, the FF is F151, the F12 is the F152, etc the numbers are currently given in order of which the projects are started. I say currently, because as late as 2004 was this was not the case as the 430 was called the F131evo and the 360 was called the F131, go figure.
I believe there was only a threat of a lawsuit, but Ferrari changed the name before one was ever filed. EDIT: Actually check that - a complaint was filed in US District Court in Detroit. >8^) ER
I hope you are right, but unfortunately something inside me doubts it. It would be really cool if there is Ferrari with his name.
No way. Not iconic enough of a name and most importantly not italian. Replacing the name "Enzo" is an impossible task really. Perhaps Ascari or Nuvolari are more appropriate names.
+1. The old man ranked Villeneuve with the greatest, up there with Nuvolari. Has there ever been a Ferrari named after a team driver?
Except that we're still 4 years from Ferrari's 70th anniversary (which is what those numbers mean) and so that makes very little sense right now. >8^) ER
The F50 was released two years before the 50th anniversary, so who knows. Anyway, Luca said that the name would be surprising; F70 would be too easy.
There is no sense in Ferrari nomenclature. The F40 is introduced in 1987, but the F50 in 1995. Go figure,.
The F50 was released two years early because of the changing emissions laws in the USA. The swap from OBD-I to OBD-II for 1996 would have meant no F50s for the US market. All US-spec F50s are 1995s for this reason. >8^) ER
Ferrari calls its "halo cars" internal project codes with "reserved" names. For example: F120: Ferrari F40 F130: Ferrari F50 (This appers in Google when you serch that code: http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Cars/1994/F130/1/F130%201%202.jpg) F140: Ferrari Enzo F150: Ferrari 'Unknown' The F70 name is possible in a near future (2017), when Ferrari will celebrate its 70th anniversary. Probably with another hypercar based on this F150. I imgine something 'ala' F40 compared with the 288 GTO.
I think they'll skip F70 altogether and plan to do something for F75. That's 10 years out - perfect timing for an Enzo successor, successor. >8^) ER
