I agree whole heartedly that the general disintegration of society (family breakdown, lack of personal responsibility, ‘blame’ mentality) is the largest part of the problem, but how anyone can say there is no systemic racism in Australia is beyond me - I saw how my Chinese husband was treated by numerous people on a regular basis, not to mention Islander and other folks. Sure people rise above it, but to say it doesn’t exist is ludicrous. And unfortunately the current world political environment is egging on the abusers (of both sides).
Look, growing up in the 50s, 60s and 70s I was called a wog many times , when it was considered derogatory (I had no idea I was a wog seeing as how my family arrived in Oz in 1851 !!) My father wasn't given a job by Mark Foys in Sydney because he was of Italian descent and Catholic but he eventually worked 3 jobs to pay his own way , go to uni and accumulate enough funds for his family and wife so we could all have a good life My ex-uncle (dad's brother !!) stole all the money he had saved after he died and left my mum destitute for 17 years until my copper BIL found this out and got some of the money back (well done Jimbo!!) Life is about injustices We didn't have a big cry and sob story, we just got on with our lives . Today's social media crowd want instant justice for perceived past injustices (sometimes ALL the way back to settlement times!!) AND they want everyone else to pay for them. I'm not right wing, I'm not left wing, I hate the extremes of both ideologies BUT I am getting sick and tired of small numbers of people hijacking the latest topic of terminally useless ADHD crowd !! FFS, get on with your lives, if you don't want to contribute to society by working hard, obeying the laws and just generally being a decent human being then go to the US and have a whinge there ..... it seems to be not only the hot place for COVID19 but also for any issue that has been festering . Just an observation
Wouldn’t it be just as easy for EVERYONE to just accept others at face value and the evaluate fairly who’s an idiot and who’s not? Why should anyone have to put up with being assessed a ‘loser’ ‘crook’ or whatever on the basis of their skin, religion, language or whatever? That’s really all it’s about - just treat everyone as equal until proven otherwise. Unfortunately world events have now put us in a position of so many day to day things coming down to a “if you’re not with us, your against us” mindset. The dog eat dog mindset is taking hold and winding it back is going to be hard. PS completely with you on he ‘rentacrowd’ mobs.

I like standing on the sidelines throwing rocks .......... it's easy to have a whinge but MUCH harder actually doing something these days without being accused of some kind of bias
It gets to a stage where one feels guilty for profiling, but twice in the last year I wish I had. That's twice out off two BTW.
But the question is - were they dropkicks because of their colour/religion/sex or just because they were dropkicks who happened to be whatever? Certainly I think it’s fair to profile people using clues that their choices give you (ie whining about how hard done by they are; complaining about lack of money with a *** in one hand and takeaway in the other while covered in expensive tatts or ‘brand’ clothes; having a million ready made excuses for why the can’t work / exercsie / study or whatever.) I ‘profile’ people by what comes out of their mouths, in the first instance. Everything these days come back to a lack of personal responsibility - but that includes people being responsible for how they treat others, as well.

But i didn't.... That's what I'm angry about. I didn't want to profile them. They looked like criminals and it turned out they were.
Leave aside the looks - did they ACT like criminals? did they SPEAK like criminals (and I don't mean accents, I mean obvious disdain for the law and common decency?) Profiling on looks is just a guess.
Just the way they looked. That's my point. I tried not to profile based on their looks, but I should have. Like I said, two for two.
