Hi, I have to compile a fun quiz for a charity lunch on the 16th December with our Italian Car Club. Thinking of having about 40 questions covering motorsport and road cars featuring the main Italian marques, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Lancia, Alfa etc, and motoring in general. It will probably be in multiple choice format so can be more obscure / difficult because people can guess even if they have no clue! So how about some ideas? (Please include answers)! Here are some starters... 1) How many races did Michael Schumacher win for Ferrari? 2) What time did Stirling Moss leave Brescia in 1955? 3) What does tyre company founder Shojiro Ishibashi's surname translate to in English? 4) What car did Mario Andretti drive to 4th place in the 1981 Long Beach GP? 5) When did Lancia become part of the Fiat Group? 6) What was Count Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia's connection to Lancia? 1) 72 2) 7.22 am 3) "Stone Bridge" - he founded Bridgestone Tyre Co. 4) Alfa Romeo. 5) 1969 6) He designed their logo I look forward to your obscure ideas!
Here's an interesting factoid provided by the wonders of the world wide web... Question: Which symbol is prominent on both the badge of an Italian car company and the flag of a country found in the Caribbean? Answer: A trident features on the badge of cars produced by Maserati and on the current flag of Barbados. See images: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Maserati Badge Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Barbados National Flag Good luck with your quiz. All the best, Andrew.
Why did Jean Alesi have problems with his vision on the last lap of the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix. Tears. The crowd was on their feet and roaring mightily when Alesi's #27 (the Gilles Villeneuve recognized number) Ferrari went past the grandstands and it was realized Alesi would win his first (and only) Grand Prix. Alesi said it was all he could do to control his emotions and see the track.

Incorrect...Only Ferrari snobs have created the "Ducati made the 8.32 engine" myth to try and distance Ferrari's involvement with a front wheel drive car badged as Lancia by Ferrari. Ducati did assemble some series two 8.32 engines at their plant under the supervision of Ferrari quality control personnel...even Ducati records show only very few Series two Thema 8.32 engines were actually assembled by them during that time. Enzo insisted on having his QC at Ducati as it was only Ferrari's name being stamped on each engine. Enzo gave 8.32 as gifts to his F1 drivers (Michele Alboreto and Gerhard Berger) Enzo was driven around in a Thema8.32 the last year of his life. Perhaps a better and accurate question would be....What front wheel drive car was produced with a Ferrari 8 cylinder quattrovalvole engine? Lancia Thema 8.32 or ....Which car on Top Gear's choice for the "car manufacturer that produced the most significant cars", was one of the seven best models ever produced by that manufacturer and had a full fledged Ferrari 8 cylinder engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFGG6l6s3eM Or show the following video clip and ask "Name this car" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNHc1QC-XJY cheers Beev Lanic Thema 8.32
I am not making a contribution here, except to say thank you for the trivia. Great questions. The only question I could think of was "What does FIAT stand for?" but I thought better of it, as the answer is not legitimate. Good luck with the compilation.
Thank you NNO for that very exhaustive list!! - are you going to send us the answers and put us out of our misery? I am esp. intrigued by the following: Which Formula One season did Ferrari miss? - and why? What was the first model made by Ferrari to be available in LHD? What does the 'f' stand for on the Pininfarina badge?
I was kind of hoping some people would answer. There are plenty of people on this forum who could run through that whole list off of memory alone (I had to look up some of the answers myself). I'll post all of the answers at some point soon if no one takes a stab at the questions.
1952? Without enough F1 cars for World Drivers Championship, the organizers adopted Formula2 regulations for the season. So although Ferrari competed (and dominated), it wasn't a Formula One season, per se. Doesn't sound entirely right, but it was the best I could come up with. What's the answer, NNO? All the best, Andrew.
I PMed the answers to the three questions to Dave, but the answer to that one is none. Ferrari is the only manufacturer to have competed in every Formula One season since the inception of Formula One. That's not the only trick question in the bunch either.
Thanks for all your great suggestions - the lunch was a great success and we raised almost US$2000 for the orphanage we support in Clarens in the Free State (see http://clarensccia.co.za/bana.html ) We raised this mainly through an auction of donated prizes, sales of donated wines and beers, and raffle tickets. The quiz was also a great success, everyone commented on the difficulty of the questions - we had a winning score of 10.5 / 17! But thoroughly enjoyed by all.
