I think the car that I purchased has significantly more mileage than what it was represented to have, which was 16,600. Seller has removed the ad after a social media post I made asking a similar question......but I have screen shots :). Does anyone know if there is an OBD II I can buy to check the mileage the TCU recorded? The 458 is not my first Ferrari. I traded in an F430 that was without a doubt "pristine". Both cars had similar mileage, my F430 had 15,800 or thereabouts miles and the 458 was reported as 16,600. However, after removing the engine panels, I'm seeing a of lot heat damage on the 458 which would indicate to me that there is more mileage than represented. The screws on the engine panels are stripped, missing parts etc, plastic is severely discolored. Do you guys think its a good idea pay to have the dealer check the mileage recorded on the TCU?

100%!! What the wear look in your interior? Does it look accurate for the 16k+ mileage? Post some pics

The interior had the following done: Headliner repaired, binnacle repaired and there was some bubbling in the dash that was fixed. Driver's seat had some repair/fix to it as well.

Also could have been left outside in the elements or driven often in bad weather. Looks like dirt and water has spotted many pieces in the engine bay. I would start with Carfax to determine if it was a rental as mentioned by mdrums. Google the vin and definetly get the ecu checked.

how 100%? a dirty engine bay on a 12+ year old car...? As for the discoloration under the engine side covers on the foam material, Almost every 458 have those white spots regardless of the mileage. If the OP is so worried he should then have the dealer pull the miles off the TCU as he said, then this will settle it..however the dirty engine bay photos you posted don't prove much + the interior work that was done..could have just been a not very well treated or babied car..sure i've seen higher mileage cars that looked cleaner but it all depends on how the previous owner treated the car..they are still over 10 years old.

Those pics are in no way indicative of mileage or that it’s higher than 16k so I would not be concerned with that part. Confused though- why would seller have an ad up (that you said he deleted) AFTER you already bought it? Don’t know what you mean by that part or what you asked him that made him delete it.

I asked him for proof on another forum once he outed himself as the seller. I had no intention of outing him until I had more knowledge. However, after I bought my car from him, he sold my trade and made a video of it and misrepresented my trade in which was the first red flag for me that if he was willing to mislead on my pristine trade in, he could have mislead me on the car he was selling to me. I expect some of this with car dealers. However, I pulled the engine panels off today for the first time and there is a lot of heat damage and wear damage that is not indicative of a 16,000 mile car. The seller privately messaged me and said he verified the mileage prior to selling it to me. I asked him for either proof or how he verified it and his response was not to email him anymore. I just want to find the truth. I'm going to ask the dealer to pick the car up and see if they can verify the mileage and see if the TCU and ECU match up.

First of all you had a PPI done by a third party , Now you're saying the seller misrepresented your "Pristine" car that you traded in and that led you to investigate this one? .. that doesn't make much sense..I maybe wrong but you sound like a nightmare buyer! I don't know the seller on a personal level but i think he's pretty well liked in the Ferrari community and has been making Fcar videos for years helping people & sharing his knowledge + selling cars lately with very detailed descriptions and videos....maybe you're right, we are all waiting to see what you come up with inspector Clouseau!

Saw your post on Facebook, you outed the seller in your initial post saying he’s a famous YouTuber that sells Ferraris , wasn’t hard to figure out you’re talking about Dan from NGS so I wouldn’t say he outed himself.

when I bought my 458 in 2018 it had 19k miles and when we did the ppi on it that’s how the sides under the covers looked too, I think that’s from the heat. you just need a good detail and black spray paint.

If the seller really told you to get lost when you asked about the mileage then that would raise questions, but something tells me there is more to this story than what you’re revealing.

I'll let the dealer pick the car up and cross check the mileage from the gearbox. The engine panel bolts were stripped, things were disconnected behind them, missing parts, oil is all over the place, discoloration seems to me excessive compared to my prior F430 with nearly the same miles etc.

He wrote me when I posted he had my phone and email. He wrote publicly that they checked the mileage before buying the car. I replied privately and asked for verification and if that was the case, I'd remove that post gladly. He told me not to email him any further. Nothing more to it than that. Why should there be more to it than that, it really is that simple. Hopefully, my local dealer can find the mileage from the gearbox. I wanted to see if I could do that myself without going to the trouble of taking it into the dealer.

If the Dealer verifies the mileage as likely being accurate will you come back on this thread and report that?

    This.

“The engine panel bolts were stripped, things were disconnected behind them, missing parts, oil is all over the place, discoloration”. Thats not an indication of high mileage, bolts don’t magically get stripped when a car hits 50k miles, it happens when the car is poorly looked after.

What did your inspector say? Didn’t he give you pictures? Why would you have bought it in that condition since those things are important to you?

Let’s start with the car fax , that will take all of 5 min. Post that and then we can move on to whatever is next. I’m guessing you certainly didn’t buy the car without looking at the car fax.

I use to think CarFax was fairly accurate but it is not. I've had 2 vehicles in accidents....hit in parking lots and when I went to sell or trade them...nothing was on CarFax.

I realize that but the mileage as it was serviced at the Fdealer will be interesting to see. I think the dispute is only on mileage not a wrecked vehicle unless I missed it.

Yes correct, question was not about being wrecked.... dealer service records would be interesting...car fax doesn't record/ receive all service history records. My current 488 CarFax records are not correct either. Records on my Ferrari app and with Lauderdale and Tampa Ferrari are correct but I understand a lot of Ferrari dealers do not report report to CarFax.

I highly doubt this car was dealer serviced much if at all though. For me...spending this amount of money I would never buy a car like this or with out seeing in person and having an independent party inspect it.

However you must admit this thread will most certainly be entertaining on what was a start to a mundane Monday morning so far.

Question. Is it eligible for the Ferrari Main Power 15? If it is, I would invest in that as they will also perform a full inspection which will reveal everything including a roll back. And if they don’t find anything at least you will be fully covered!
