One of the FPR on the 348 (bank 5-8) might be bad.....I pulled the small vacuum hose that attaches to the regulator and found a small amount of fuel in it. There shouldn't be any fuel on the vacuum side.

Also I noticed recently that my spark plugs on bank 5-8 are carbon fouled (rich fuel mixture) so I'm suspecting the FPR is part of the problem....The regulator on the other bank (1-4) does not leak any fuel in the vacuum line.

What's the best way to test the regulator??

Also I read in this forum that other Bosch regulators might work in the 348...I certainly don't want to pay a premium price if I can find a cheaper one....Has anyone used a replacement part for the regulator with success??

Is there a Shroeder Valve on the fuel rail to attach a fuel gauge??
What is the fuel pressure reading (PSI) supposed to be when ignition is on (car not started) and when the car is running??

Thanks....but that's NOT what I'm looking for....I know how to remove/replace the fuel pressure regulator...It's been been disconnected already!

I'm looking for a way to TEST the regulator to find out if it performs according to Ferrari specs or if it needs replacing.....I understand that one way to do this is to perform a pressure test with a fuel gauge....However I don't know the 348 specs to test!

BTW, my regulator is BOSCH part# 280 160 738 on my car. The 348 Parts interchange List indicates a different Bosch number for the same part (280 160 731)....Also on the write-up link posted above you can clearly see yet another Bosch part # 280 160 715 stamped on the regulator!

So which Bosch part # is the CORRECT one for a 348 Fuel pressure regulator??

Do a pressure test to the vacuum connector. There should be no leak to the fuel lines. If you put pressure on it it must hold the pressure because in working condition the part is sealed. If it lets air to the fuel or fuel to the vacuum line. The part is damaged and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for your answer....it makes sense to test the vacuum side...

normally you test them in the car,
with a fuel pressure gauge and a vacuum pump.....
but I suppose you could test them on the bench.

if its leaking you throw it away.

I took BOTH regulators out of the car for vacuum testing as suggested by Samy.

True to form the regulator on Bank 5-8 does not hold vacuum! The other regulator is fine....Ordered a new one from Autozone for $56...I will install it tomorrow and continue the troubleshooting the rich condition/fouled plugs and exhaust smoke....I'm hoping the new regulator will correct some of the symptoms.
