There is a place here that i frequent for lunch, and another fellow is also often there who drives a Maserati GT of some sort. It looks an awful lot like the Ferrari GT lineup over the last decade.

Do these cars share the same designer? Any same or similar running gear?

    Just curious.

Pininfarina designed the Maser GT as well. Not to mention Coke self serve stations. Lol. GT even has a Ferrari block. Here is my MC, which sounds amazing with a large back seat... Image Unavailable, Please Login

The original Cali was intended to be a replacement for the GranCabrio. Then due to pricing, and the fact that Ferrari wanted to attract a new audience, they decided to make it the Ferrari California. Ferrari was in charge of Maserati back then, so there's how that all came to be.

The Roma is a totally different platform, but like the Cali, it is based on a Maserati concept. While the Cali was in fact a Maserati for most of its development life, the Roma is more of a Ferrari based off of the Alfierì.

Oh, geez. This trope again. Cali is a Ferrari - has a horsey on the front, F-worthy prices, and sticky buttons! :D

BTW, the Pininfarina Coke machine is cool as s**t!! I'd love to have one in my man cave!

Tom, it is not a trope, and it has nothing to do with whether it's a real Ferrari or not. It is. The history of the Cali is what it is, and it does not make the Cali any less of a car. I had a lovely GranCabrio until last fall. It was afun car and I miss it. I don't look down upon Maserati at all, and there is no shame in the Cali's history. Here's the funny bit. If you join a Maserati owners forum, they are equally upset about the Cali because they claim Ferrari stole the car from Maserati and it should have been the best GranCabrio ever made. It was developed in a joint venthre between Ferrari and Maserati, so I'd say those are pretty decent credentials.

Don't read too much into the opinion of others regarding the Cali. No, it was not a Ferrari from its initial inception and development, but it became one. That is what matters.
