So my new floor mats came in. I tried them without securing and I don’t like it. So I ordered a set of grommets from Ricambi.

Has anyone retrofit these to aftermarket mats? How did you cut the hole? Punch? Knife? If knife, did you just cut two slices to form an X and then cut the corners to make a square and the grommet hides everything? If you used a punch, what size?

Figured I’d ask before I just jumped in to do it. The grommets should arrive on Friday so this would be a Sunday morning, hopefully quick project.

    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Corey

I just used a box knife with a new blade to cut the circle the size of the grommet. Doesn't have to be a perfect circles, the flange covers it.

I used an Exacto knife and put the mat on top of a 2” x 4” piece of wood. Cut the hole smaller than the grommet and force the grommet thru. You can always cut more, but you can’t put any back.

I used a whole punch to get perfectly round holes of the correct size, and then fitted the 2 part grommets from Ricambi.

Do you remember the hole punch size? I think I'm leaning towards this option as there is less chance to mess it up.

If you only need the carpet parts you need both the top and bottom piece, then the carpet grommet parts are 66233100 and 66233200.

No, sorry. I have a kit that has punches in 30 sizes, so I just used the one that fit the inside diameter of the grommets.

No worries. I guess I’ll just measure the grommet inside they arrive. I have a bunch of sizes also but my luck it will be the one size I have to order.

I got some aftermarket mats off ebay, just drilled holes and fitted the OEM grommets. Those Eagleklaws look like a good option.
