Andreas, I totally forgot about this. I was invited to go see an F1 driver test an Indy car. I figured it was some back marker so I did not want to make the trek from Florida. I found out the next day who the backmarker was. REGRET! "Has Ayrton Senna ever driven Indycar race car? We found an image where Ayrton (or somebody with the same helmet?) is sitting in Penske. Thank you in advance and best regards, Isken and Bektour." Driven - yes. Raced - no. Senna had a test with the Penske CART team during the 1992/93 off-season during one of Senna's fights with the FIA, in which the FIA were threatening to turn down Senna's superlicence. Senna tested with the Penske team - who, like McLaren, were also sponsored by Marlboro. However Senna's license was endorsed and he was back with McLaren again for the 1993 season. Imagine Roger Penske's disappointment. Imagine CART's disappointment - Senna vs Mansell in CART might well have taken quite a large chunk out of Formula One's following
I kept dozing off as they paraded around behind the SC. But it seemed to me that Danica gained spots in the pits (other than the overshoot), and then lost them on-track. But I have to ask: Do they now call it "Ethanol Alley"? Or "Green waste of fresh water Alley"? Or "farmer's lobby Alley"? Or how about just: "Vaseline Alley"? Helio had to win, under direction of his lawyer: "The jury finds him not guilty, then he wins the pole position at Indy, and now the government drops the case completely," he said. "All he has to do now is win the race and climb the fence." -- (http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/racing/indycar/news/story?id=4199491) (Just remember to report this win on your taxes. )
LOL I got so tired of the whole milk thing. Like anybody (other than the farmers) care. Anyway, great win for the man who won "Dancing with the Stars". Indy 500 is almost as good.
I like milk. But it wouldn't be my first choice of beverage after 500 miles in a hot cockpit. Of course, (not being Kimi), a bit of bubbly wouldn't be, either. (Although champaign sprays lots better than milk. ) But you'd only get pineapple juice on the podium in Hawaii. (Maybe get Deer Park as a sponsor?)
Wrong. Post race press notes from AGR: Driver: Danica Patrick Car: #7 Boost Mobile/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone Danica Patrick: Started 10th, finished 3rd "The Boost Mobile/Motorola guys did a great job in the pits today and we had great stops all day. I had a really strong car for the last few stints and would have loved to see the last 35 laps raced green. I know we would have had no issues making it to the end without stopping. I was happy to keep the #7 car up front toward the end of the day. It was a great race for the fans and I'm happy for Helio (Castroneves); he was super fast all day."
The biggest loser: Eddie Cheever for making some of the stupidest and breath wasting comments of all time. Example: About a crash between two drivers of the same team last year. "You need to call them in your office and sit them down and have a discussion." Ummmm... DUH! Thanks for the clever insight, Eddie. I never would have thought that. I think Eddie was being paid by the word because he never shut up. Second biggest loser: ABC sports for treating the 500 like it's audience tuned in to see an ice skating event. Testosterone be GONE! Third biggest loser: Go Daddy.com. Their commercials SUCK. The three geeks peeking at Danica showering is just bad taste. Biggest winner: Roger. He's the best. He should be one of the best known sports personalities in the US but few even know what he's accomplished in racing. The man is a WINNER.
She finished 3rd. It's a big deal. If someone could just get her to stop saying "Ya know". Peter, If I will see you in June I will bring you a copy of the pic. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's why they pour the milk on their head. If they drank milk after 3 hours of hot, sweaty high speed driving, they would probably puke....
I thought the commercial where there were guys in female swimming suits doing the pit stop was funny...
Glad I wasnt the only one that thought the broadcast was terrible. In fact, I couldnt tell you the last time I enjoyed the broadcast aspect of an IRL race!
was at the race this year (thanks to tifosiron for his ticket!). First trip to the 500 since 1997 ( 2 Brickyard snoozers and 4 or 5 F1 races in there too), great to be back at the 500. not a great "race", but a great show. lots of action. restarts were killer. big wrecks. great weather. some nice eye candy. some, uh...eye poison too after 5 laps or so everyone was pretty much single-file. fortunately (?), there was a wreck every 20 laps to force a restart. wonderful story with Helio's win, and I agree with bdelp-Roger Penske is the man. Wheldon, Danica, Bell, Power was an unexpected top 5. Marco and Graham need to get this place figured out and we'll have some great shows in the future.
If I remember correctly, I think Brazil is the second largest producer and largest exporter of OJ. * I don't know where they stand on milk production. (* I looked up the shipping numbers once when I noticed that the local D.C. area market's oranges were from South Africa, not Florida.)
