I have not been on my bike in decades and stopped because too many friends got hit by cars. I even used to solver braze my own custom bike frames from Reynolds 531 and 531SL cut the head tubes and bottom brackets and set up with Campy gruppos.

I want to use tech to get back on the bike but with indoor trainer. I want to use my road bike and I have been pointed in this direction and hooking up to zswift :

973385 Wahoo Fitness KICKR CORE Smart Power Trainer
973430 Wahoo Fitness KICKR CLIMB Indoor Grade Simulator
973435 Wahoo Fitness KICKR HEADWIND Smart Fan

Zswift does looks like a cartoon but looks to have workable motivating rides and the elevation changes and resistance changes of the kicker system sounds like it could be fun.

From what I read so far the biggest negative is the cartoon nature of zswift. I'd like more realism. Anyway for those of you who train indoors what do you think of this set-up?

The VirZoom app is incredible. You would have to buy a Meta Quest 2 ($300), but you will get realism. If you can wait until fall, the Quest 3 will be even better. Basically you can ride anywhere Google Street View has been (So Cal, Italy, wherever). There are also animated games where you can compete against yourself or friends or anyone else online. My favorites are Chopper River Run, Pegasus (flying horse) and F1. If you are easily motion sick, stay away from Pegasus (there's a kayak game that is so gentle). Sometimes I get on to play for 30minutes and the next thing I know I've been pedaling for 90 minutes. You just get lost in time because it is so engaging.

However, if you can wait for, and afford, the Apple Vision Pro, I think you will be blown away using the VirZoom app. Apple's version of street view is far superior to Google's street view. The only thing is Apple has mapped only a small fraction of streets.
