A friend has a 10+ year old BMW and still getting killed taking it to the dealer. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced and excellent BMW shop in the Wilton Ct area? I have an awesome independent here in NJ, but don't know anyone out in that area....

    Thanks!

I take my daughters' 1997 BMW 528i to Vantage Motors in Stamford, who ordinarily work on cars like my old 400i, vintage Ferraris, Astons, Bentleys and other assorted higher end cars. They do first class work, are exceedingly honest and, while not cheap, are very fair in their rates. They serviced my 400i for the last five years that I owned it.

While not a BMW specialist per se, Michael has a brother or brother in law who has a 528i and so he is up to speed on them.

Ask for Michael (the son) or Marjan (the father) and see what they can do for you. They are on vacation right now but Michael will be back the week after next.

    Highly recommended.

    Thanks for the replies!
These guys sound good, but probably too expensive given the variety of marques they specialize in (I'll let my friend know about them anyway)...

These guys seem more focused on BMW, but the distance is too far (~30 miles away...)

    Any other recommendations out there?
    Thanks!

My brother used Nico's Sunoco station on High Ridge Road in Stamford about 1/2 mile north of the Merritt. He has a 1999 328i (E46) and had many good services there. The place is open 7 days a week and is always crowded with european cars.

I drive by Nico's every week while on my way to play tennis at a friend's house in North Stamford and always wondered whether it was any good or not. Always a bunch of interesting older sports cars parked there. Maybe one of these days I'll stop in and see what it's all about.

I could only find a complaint against Nico's when I did a web search, but I would trust someone's opinion on here more than a random "business complaint" lobbed on one of the yahoo/yelp business ratings...

For these smaller independents you have to go by word of mouth as they typically don't have a web site (I don't think the 2 guys that run the place I take our BMW's to has a website- I refer a lot of people to them and would of course send my friend if not the wrong state!)

Thanks Peter- that's exactly the sort of place I was thinking of! Their site says they specialize in BMW (and Saab)......I'll pass this along!

By the way, we have the same car- 2000 540i sport 6-speed- great car! I've had mine over 10 years now...I took the money I was going to replace it with and sold my 911 to get a 360- couldn't do that if I had to get a new daily driver- the 540 has been holding up that well (knock on wood!)
