    Hi,

Yesterday when i stopped at a supermarket my 458 italia suddenly showed electronic failure and immobilizer malfunction.

I tried changing the batteries , but the car would not start because of the immobilizer malfunction.

now my car is stopped their i couldn't do anything.

Can anyone please tell me how i can reset the immobilizer or shut it down.

what do i do , what can i do ?

i cant carry my car because its on Parking... plus the dealer is closed in Dubai because we have weekend holidays....

I wish I had your problem (458 that is!) :)

Suggest you call the dealer and have them pick it. Post security on it in the meantime.

You could also try disconnecting the battery for a period of time. That certainly helps a lot of the older cars with various electronic gremlins. That said, consult your manual first, some modern cars do not like having their battery disconnected and some also have a secondary battery which might also require disconnection.

Best of luck and let us know how it pans out.

    p.s. Welcome to F Chat!

    thanks for the replay.

i tried several things which didn't work.

First of all , a thing non of you should do when this happens. DO NOT USE YOUR SPARE KEY.

The reason of the immobilizer malfunction is the spare key being used, now the italian thinks its going to get stolen so it locked...

I tried changing the batteries into new ones , tried charging it with the same one , NO USE because of the immobilizer locking the car.

in the owners manual theirs nothing on how to deactivate the immobilizer malfunction.

I have to wait to saturday to contact my dealer.

If anyone knows how to close the immobilizer malfunction it will be great.

Did the car come with a security system PIN or something you can try? Otherwise I'd think that you're SOL. Sorry mate!

The vehicle is equipped with an electronic immobiliser system
(Ferrari CODE) which is automatically activated when the ignition
    key is removed.
The keys are equipped with an electronic device which transmits
a coded signal to the Ferrari CODE ECU. Once this ECU has
recognised the signal, it allows starting the engine.
    Operating
Each time the ignition key is removed (see page 87), the protection
    system activates the engine immobiliser.
    - When starting the engine, press the ENGINE START button on
    the steering wheel:
    1) If the code is recognised, the CODE warning light A on the
instrument panel turns off when the check procedure has been
completed, whereas the EOBD warning light B turns off when
the engine is started once the ECU has completed its diagnostic
cycle; in these conditions, the protection system has recognised
the key code and deactivated the immobiliser.
    2) If the CODE warning light A stays on, it means that the code
has not been recognised. If this occurs, it is advisable to turn
the key back to position 0 and then back to II; if the immobiliser
device remains active, try with the other key provided.
    Important note
If you still cannot restart the engine, contact the Ferrari
    Service Network.

after a long morning , i had to go to ferrari and pick the technician , we came and when he was trying to insert the manual stick to put the gear on Neutral it got broken ... so we had to go and get another one which also got broken .... 30 min between the place we are in and ferrari HQ , then he got really pissed and opened a lot covers carefully and did it by a smaller stick which at last worked .. after that the car had the handbrake on which he also had to open other stuff and release the brake after that we were good to push the car and carry it to ferrari !

after reaching ferrari and checking the car they said the battery was weak and needs to be changed , after that they could not start the car and did not know whats wrong so they said they will contact italy for online supervision on the car.

Today Ill be going to see what they did so far...

Use the PIN to get the car started and you can debug it later.

I solved it, when I changed the lid, I did not see the small pill shaped immobilizer pop out, found it in the trash, downside to having a clean freak wife!
How do you use the pin to start it, my manuals haven't arrived?

You need to read your manual and practice starting wo the fob on a regular basis because the fob will fail you when you least exoect it

Any updates on what actually causes this and how to mitigate when you get the “immobilizer malfunction” error on the screen?

No PIN option on the 458. Must have a valid key. Just as a note the battery in the key fob portion of the key on a 458 has nothing to do with the immobilizer only locking and unlocking the doors. The immobilizer is strictly a function of the chip inside the key being excited externally from a magnetic coil in the tumbler.
