    Greetings!

It's been many years since I sold my 360 manual Spider, sadly just before the prices went sky high.

My dream car is the 458 coupe - last of the non-turbo engines and beautiful car. I'm a senior, and have had several health issues requiring surgeries over the last 2 years. I'm now at the point where the logical part of me recognizes that sports cars make no sense, especially with arthritis and my other issues. Despite that the idea of buying a single owner certified 458 from a high quality Ferrari dealer is very tempting.

Since I've been out of the market for quite a while I'd appreciate your thoughts about current/future pricing. I've seen them over $250K during the surge, but they seem to be coming down. I'm not interested in a collector car, or a garage queen, I'm looking for something I can drive and enjoy at a reasonable cost. I know depreciation is hard to predict, but if my downside is $30K or so for the next 2-3 years I can live with that easily.

Even though the car is Ferrari Certified, I'm not sure what that means. The ad states the car passed the 101 point Ferrari inspection, and is in proper working order. It's eligible for the 24 month power train warranty, but that's not included in the selling price. The dealer is 1500 miles from where I live, and I don't know if the warranty benefits extend to other dealerships, if I decide to purchase it.

Any thoughts are welcome. The car is a 2014 Coupe, Red/Black, 40K miles, accident to right rear reported to CarFax in 2017.

Full specs from the listing are:

    - Rosso Corsa Exterior
    - Nero Interior
    - Nero Carpets
    - Yellow Brake Calipers
    - Carbon Fiber Central Bridge
    - Carbon Fiber Dashboard Inserts
    - Rosso Horse Stitched on Headrest
    - Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel + LED's
    - Scuderia Ferrari Shields
    - Full Optional Mirrors/Homelink
    - Front & Rear Parking Sensors
    - Chrome Painted Wheels
    - Yellow Rev Counter
    - Full Electric Seats
    - Rosso Colored Stitching

How much are they asking ?

I would get 24 Power train warranty for sure. You should be able to negotiate that for 5k - tops. (I have gotten it added for free on 2 Ferraris but not sure what the market is like right now). Gives you 2 years of not having to worry about anything major.

I would look at others without a story attached (accident). I assume you’re looking at the one from Continental. A quick search just on Autotrader shows 11 for sale with no accidents. 3-4 in the $190’s with 24k to 33k miles. If your heart was set on the one with the accident and ‘high miles’ I’d think you would be at least 10% below ‘market’ of the others, so more like $180k but I’m certainly no expert. :)

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I agree, as someone told me before I bought the 360: "The most expensive car you can buy is a cheap Ferrari".

And, yes, the car I was considering is at Continental.

I would pass. With that mileage, not knowing the dealer, and accident history, it probably be difficult to resell in years ahead.

Ferraris sell themselves. If you need convincing to buy a particular Ferrari, move on. When the right car presents itself, your first instinct will be to write a check, not ask for advice on a car forum.

Since you're looking at a DRIVER - how *about* the one from Continental?

You've got leverage to get a better deal - so see how low they'll go because, at the right price, it would be a good deal - right? :)

    Kevin

PS - I know the gang at Continental - good crew and I can recommend a sales guy if you don't have one already.

@kestrou Makes the exact points that were in my mind. You said yourself you are not looking at a garage queen, and looking for something to drive. If the car has the specs you want and is in a color you like, you certainly seem to have some leverage here which is already a low price for a 2014.

Yeah, it's been in an accident. It's been repaired. Get the warranty and get to driving while your arthritis still allows. Who cares that it won't win at Cavallino?

$190k for a 458 with an accident is a total rip off! Keep looking for another one.

In 2021 I paid $159k for my red 458 with 17k miles CPO from Ferrari Central New Jersey and no accident history!

    this is 2023 not 2021 you can't get a 17K mile 458 for $159k anymore!

Regarding the OP's question, 40K miles wouldn't bother me, means the car is driven and maintained, those are the best Ferraris, but the accident on the carfax will be the issue when you go to resell it...if it was $190K without the accident wouldn't be far off from what were seeing similar mileage ones sell for on BaT.

And I bought a Ford GT for $182k in 2020….the market is a little different now

I could probably get $190k for it now….
