Going to pick up my Ferrari 360 Spider from the shop tomorrow (been hibernating there for about 2 months after the I had the ECUs re-calibrated) and would love to get some good footage of it on the deserted roads of rural Indiana on the way back to Kentucky. Hopefully with the top down!!! Gonna be getting close to 60 degrees tomorrow.

Anybody have any good ideas for places to put the GoPros? I currently have two w/ suction cup mounts and I've attached some shots of places where I've considered mounting in the past but never went through with. I'm pretty sure the location in the cabin where I put the camera in the first picture was MADE specifically for it to be mounted there. Perfect view, but I need some unique views of the car.

I'm considering mounting one of them to the bumper pointing at the exhaust so I can get some good sound quality out of it. The cameras don't really pick up sound very good (other than wind, of course) so I thought putting one there would be a good idea.

Thanks for any tips! I also wish I had more cameras. Can never have too many angles! :D

BTW, the suction cup mounts are rated for speeds up to around 160+ miles per hour, so they can be mounted literally ANYWHERE.

How about testing the mount at top speed, and putting it on the bottom of the steering column pointing in reverse? :)

    Engine lid? Hood pointing backward?

A fellow Ferrari driver in Switzerland has a piece on You Tube which shows different placements of the camera on his 512 TR. Interesting shots.

Let me know if you cannot find them and I will contact him.

Be careful not to film incriminating evidence! That view from between the seats may show both the driver and the speedo... and if you are unlucky enough to get pulled over the cops will spot the camera immediately..... just a thought :-/ That said, all of the rental cars in Maranello have the camera's mounted where you suggest and the footage comes out great! I've stuck camera's at a low level on the door panels just behind the front wheel arch before - looking forward - gives a great sense of speed, shows the front steering movement through the wheel and looks immense in corners and when countersteering... also very difficult to prove speeds and driver if it falls into the wrong hands!

Ps dont fully trust the suction cups - and remember - it they do come loose it's not the cost of the camera but the damage it could do to your car depending on where it's mounted and what it strikes en-route to the hedge!

    I'll take a look! Thanks!

I sent the car in to get the ECUs recalibrated. It increased the hp/torque and throttle response is immense! Very happy with the benefits that the tuning did. I will not modify anything else on the car (besides maybe the exhaust) :)

Thanks for the tips! I honestly don't fully trust the cameras but one of them I tested on a ZR1 pushing about 180 mph (on track) and the video was very stable and it really held on. I keep the videos to myself and show friends so I'm not worried about anything. :)

I'm not necessarily worried about being pulled over with the cameras mounted because that can't really be held against me. Doesn't prove that I'm driving erratically or anything. :)

I was considering putting a camera on the back of the engine lid and looking forward. Then I wouldn't have to worry about it dinging my car if it falls off. :D

Now I understand why Chuck (ceb39) asked me where he can find my GoPro exercises.

They can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=elsi+512tr&sm=3

One of the best (IMHO) is this here, where I have mounted the GoPro directly behind one of the front wheels: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V0MPtXTD4U[/ame].

Sound is zero to negative (mostly wind) but I like the pics.

    Have fun

You will get the best results if you use at least 2 camera's IMO. Place one camera near the exhaust to use as the sound source. And put the other cam on various places to use as a video source.

Like this video of my CS:
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZsKxlmoWDg[/ame]

Or this one but I've mostly used the "exhaust" camera here for the video source. I think I put 3 gopro's on my car during this run :D

I always use the "exhaust" camera for the sound.

It's quite a bit cheaper and involves a lot less processing of video clips to simply use an external mic positioned out of the wind where the car/engine/exhaust noises can all be picked up. Granted though, if you do a two camera set-up you can get quality noise and also picture-in-picture, or simply swap from one video source to the other as desired, but it's fair bit of extra processing time if all you want is sound.

Love this threat and it gives me plenty of idears where to place my GoPro.
I bought one on black friday but did not have the change to trey it.

Also would love to know what settings you guys use for recording and how much space it takes on the sd card.

I mounted mine on the right rear top fender pointing at an angle forward toward the driver (on both my TR and 360).

It captured the engine bay and forward motion and the sound was pretty good too (the TR also has a glass engine cover).

Make sure to remove the waterproof casing for better sound (not the entire case).

    Good luck!

Not very inspirational in terms of camera placement but a clip here with an external mic.

One of the problems of putting the camera outside the car is generally very poor audio. This overcomes the problem and allows the camera to be placed anywhere with good audio. Just tape the mic lead along the body to the camera. Mic is in the engine compartment here.....

Here's some video my cousin took with his hero 3 black in 2.7k (select native in settings to see it at full res), but my favorite angle was attached to the driver rear quarter facing forward. There are a few shots of that and you get a good sense of speed and can see the driver moving. Have fun with it, they're great cameras. I picked one up for myself.
