While I absolutely LOVE my TR, this has been an all too familiar pose... Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's my 30k service. There is another thread around that chronicles my differential/tranny blues a month later. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112201&highlight=billows However, despite all that, I absolutely LOVE the Testarossa.
From what I can tell the TR will be less expensive than my kids! My 7 year old is already flying. I have to get my car before he's old enough that i have to get him a plane. Fortunately I have a couple more years. He's got time in a 172, 182, piper cub and an A1 Skyraide
Hi JBENJIMAC, All that I can say is this, and believe me,it is based upon personal experience... Many peolpe who are buyin' a car(average randon car) are looking most of the time at what they can see:a nice paint, nice black tyres and nice aluminium wheels.... Don't ever forget this:Good looking car may look and/or be good. Good looking cars may also look bad! Bad cars may look bad, but,(that's the tricky part) now the tricky part: Bad cars may also LOOK good..... If you don't have the experience to differ (don't take this the wrong way,it's time NOW and not after you bought the car for regrets or tears)a Testarossa and a 512 TR,that is a sign that you are in need of some PROFESSIONAL help around here to determine that your wanted car is OK or NOT OK.... Exemple:I have had more that 300 Porsches,so I know what I'm talkin' about. My first one, when I was 18,was a disaster....I tought I knew it all....and I knew just 0...Learned a lot in the mean time...but,my last 911 turbo '89,back in 2005,I bought it for a good price, and I knew the car needed some work. I thought I could do it for 200 or 2500,but I ended up way over the 7000 mark.... Don't forget:you'd be way better of with a "not so good looking" with a good history or service book/bills than with a super nice car wich is blowin' some blue smoke or leaking oil.... Mine is not the nicest around(not a show queen or a "345 days a year garage car"),but she's pretty good with the usual "time marks",withoul oil leaks or other stuff. It's my 5th Ferrari, and my first Testarossa. I think I can say that I know them pretty well, dreamin' of owning one since the day they came out in '84...Must say that the first I went to see was the good one too...drove her over 7000km within 2 months time. They are damn' solid too!! Get your car inspected, the money is it worth, spare parts,if they are still availeble) aren't that cheap...If the car is basically good,go for it. As said before, the paint does look like the car has been repainted. Are you sure the car was red when it left the factory? IMO this is important, because I think that a color changed car loses some of his autenthicity. Is the paint code sticker under the bonnet (front) still in place? What does it tell? It should read:"Fer 300/6 Rosso Corsa". Your car has the 5 bolt wheels,so it's a '86+ car. I thought the US models had the turning signal lenses all the way orange? This one is not...?? As you have the side lights,it is not a Euro model. Give me your VIN numeb and I could give you some good info about the car... Hope your dream comes trough sooner or later... Speedman
Thanks for your post. I have postponed purchasing the car. I've been doing research and learning more about it before I aquire it. The car is not going anywhere. It belongs to a family member of a friend and they are not in a hurry to sell it. It has been cared for by a Ferrari dealership in our area. It is in excellent condition. It is in need of a detail job. There is no white smoke, it tracks straight like a laser to 100mph and brakes straight like a laser back to 0 mph. The engine runs very smooth and sounds great. It tracks and curves like a dream. I can't wait to be able to drive it more. It will be inspected before I complete the purchase. Enjoy. It sounds like you have a nice stable of cars.
75 on the freeways! We did it on a private road. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. We also had a black and white that was curious and hanging around.
