Hello, I've been wanting to F12 for a very long time, but the prices were always a bit much for me to swallow. I had shelved the idea for a few years, but still look from time to time, but now I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I'm worried about the prices. The prices have gone up this year, but so has everything. I'm wondering what opinions are on F12 prices and values, if they have bottomed out or on the rise? They are definitely up from what I have noticed the past year, but so have used Corvettes and everything else. Are we going to see an equalization in the used car/exotic market and will the F12 then come down? I'm not afraid of some depreciation, it comes with the territory, but I would like to buy as smart as I can. I know nobody has a crystal ball, but I would love and appreciate some opinions as I have read different thoughts. Thank you in advance!
Not sure how much lower they will go. Maybe just a touch. But the F12 is a fine car, and the V12 will spoil you for anything V8.
F12 is a great car. Not as “exciting” as a mid-engine but the 12 cylinder engine is intoxicating and hard to go back. They will go down in price and everything is elevated now … but if you can afford it and enjoy it .. then do it !! You won’t be sorry!!
I'm a very analytical person and keep up on the Ferrari markets, I have your same question and I can't answer it. As you say prices are up, but so is everything. I also look back 2017 when an authorized dealer offered me a 20k mile car for $210k. Just last year a local friend with a later perfect spec 1 owner with low miles for $215k. Urgh, I would have been great with either deal. I have no feel for what they'll do the next 2 years. I am gun shy for eating $40k in depreciation in 9 months on a 2017 Cali T.
I appreciate all of the encouragement and feedback. I did own a 2007 599 about 7 or so years ago and I loved it, but it was electrically glitchy. I do think later it was discovered it was the battery and something else relatively small, but I was already over it at that point and sold it. I have had 3 McLarens and they all would depreciate so quickly, but now they are up just like everything else. I have wanted an F12 for years and the high prices on all cars just has me a bit worried, but I'm going for it!!! Everything I have read and watched online has reinforced the decision with how much the owners love them as well as them being overall very reliable and comfortable on long drives. That is what I am looking for, a dream road trip car. I have loved Ferraris since as young as I can remember.
I bought a 2014 F12 with 6500 miles red/tan in March of this year for $205k. I almost didn't do it because I thought I was overpaying.
And yes its a perfect road trip car. I took it for 1100 mile rally with a Ferrari club through southern Oregon and Nevada. One day we drove 11 hours. It was epic.
That is absolutely amazing! 11 hours, wow! Huge testament to how comfortable it must've been. This is what I want the car for. I cannot see myself ever getting sick of it. This car is more my style than an F car or McLaren, even though road trips were pretty comfy in the McLarens, too.
The prices are elevated but they don’t seem to be that crazy yet - 458 prices are absurd. What kind of spec / color combo are you looking for?
agree regarding 458 prices. will f12 be the next? 812? who knows?! can't go back in time though, buy the car you like!
Unless there is a large financial crash, I believe the bottom for F12's has already come and gone due to inflation, supply and demand, and the availability of cash to buyers in this market. It is also the last Pininfarina V-12, which I believe will carry value down the road.
If the car market falls (I think it will), the stock market probably would've tanked also. Would you then want to buy sp500 at a discount versus F12 at a 50k discount? I would put myself in that situation, and maybe you'll have your answer? I enjoy both-making money & driving F12. They're complete antithesis to one another. Some people say it's an "investment", but I don't see how unless you get lucky. I think it'll somewhat follow the market with some underlying depreciation current. You'll probably lose about 50k (100k tops) if you drive it for a few years.
Love all the comments!! Much appreciated! My offer was accepted on the car and going to see and drive it tomorrow. It’s at a Ferrari dealer on consignment. Should I still ask for a PPI? All of its service has been done for the last 3 years at this dealer. Sounds like it’s been gone through already. Wish me luck!
I'd get a PPI, unless you consider this a small purchase. YouTube is filled with grievances of people who bought Ferraris (and other sports cars) without a PPI and are trying to get things resolved after the fact. All of them have the same thing in common--they were told it was in good shape and didn't think a high end dealer would give them something that isn't completely sorted
Most PPI I found doesn't take down the undertray which makes the whole thing pretty meaningless IMO. I would ask about that first. If they take down the tray and can rule out small leaks or bad bushings, I think that is helpful. although leak doesn't seem to be too common with these cars. If it doesn't throw any error msg's after driving for about 15min, pulls well, drives straight, handles ok, no weird noises, and all buttons work... go over the entire car both outside and inside in broad daylight to make sure there aren't any damages you can't live with. Leather issues on the dash, etc. Check side skirts and front bumper underspoiler for cracks or what not. Check the hood and trunk to make sure nothing is missing. I would do all this if you're there in person whether you're getting PPI or not. of course, do all this when your heart rate sinks back down to the normal rate. When I first saw my F12, I had attention span of a 6yo with ADHD grinning from ear to ear.
I thought on a call with the sales guy that the car had been inspected. That was mentioned when I talked about little quirky issues and the battery. My offer was to include a new battery and I hadn’t seen it replaced in the service records going back 3 years. I may not have the time for the PPI. The dealer is closing early and sounds like it’s several hours to do it. I had just figured with it being at Ferrari that it had somewhat been inspected, but I guess I’m wrong. With my travel schedule and not living in the area, the PPI may kill the deal. I will ask a lot of questions and definitely drive it for at least 15minutes.
The right time to buy is when you can afford it. Everything else is just crystal ball gazing. Is the car coming with a warranty? If it’s a good Ferrari warranty, I’d be ok without a ppi. Else get a very good ppi and get a warranty. If the dealer wants to sell the car; make them do the ppi you want, and if they have to stay open late they should just do it. Your not buying a used Honda here!!! Good luck.
No one knows the future. Prices could go up or down, but also consider, none of us is getting any younger. What is the value of making the most of each moment? I really enjoy having a Ferrari in the garage, so for me, each moment is that much better with it. With the F12 it really is simply Ferrari V12 NA. All the new ones (812, etc) are much higher. And below, as you know with the 599, a fine car in its own right, but look at the markets and you'll see a distinct break between the single clutch F1 cars and the DCT F1 cars. I think if you can swallow whatever price you pay today moving down by 30% then you should be safe. I doubt prices will do that, but anything is possible. The F12 is a fabulous car, beautiful, more than fast enough to be scary if you want it, GT enough to be a good GT. Its really got it all. Just get it aligned and put on new tires- suggest MPS4S.
Truthfully a new battery can solve many problems I have had two F12s sold my first one that I speced and bought new with 7k miles on it at the bottom of the market the buyer did not ask for a PPi and the car was fine . I bought the current one when I fell in love with it from seeing it here at Ferrari chat .. that is a 2017 but did not due a PPI with no regrets ..I did ask the dealer to put a new battery and mps4s tires on it .... either way The F12 is an incredible car..gook luck with it....
I believe F12 is the most beautiful V12 recently designed by Ferrari. It will age nicely. Its much nicer that all the cars that came before and after til date. However I just sold mine...did not have much love for it. It stayed in the garage as most other cars I own offer much more fun in the weekend. I added a 458 Spider now to see how my love-affair with Ferrari will continue...
