I'm disapointed that Ferrari would design and produce the roof latch (toggle assy) out of cast metal.
Anyways, I would like to know if there is a resource for just this piece so I can fix mine, or if I should redesign it in a more propper way and produce it myself in stainless.
Do other Mondial owners have the same problem?

I made mine out of plain old 10 Ga steel, drilled it, bent it into shape, and oil quenched it to 90 rockwell.

(I agree, POT metal....? Luigi really made a lemon part here.)

The roof latch is one of the numerous weak points of the Mondial.

Approx. one year ago someone here posted a picture of a replacement made to his specifications. Looked very solid and professional, alas, I couldn´t retrieve the post using the search engine. Maybe you are more successful than me in trying the search engine. Or the original poster reads this thread and gives us the URL.

Post a photo if someone tells me how.
I do have a digital camera.
I wont be able to do this until Weds next week though.......
I also could see how much it would cost to produce more of these.
I designed the "fix" and had a friend make them in his machine shop.
    Thanks

Download the photo(s) to your computer (make a note of where they are) Then go to post a reply and click on "Manage Attachments." Browse for the previously saved photo file, and add it to the list....it'll post from there
Yes, even though I've not yet had that failure, I can see how this could easily happen; therefore, it'd be helpful to have an alternative to the factory part

If the "t" has the same latch, I would be interested as well! My latches are not broken, but I would like to have a back up set, handy if and when they let go.

These are more expensive than gold. What breaks on them are the little arms. Unless you are lucky to find a used latch, be prepared to shell out almost $600 for the complete latch (the only way you can buy them).

When I broke a latch I was able to use small brushed aluminum pieces (actually from a set of drawer pulls I found at Home Depot) that was the exact dimensions, filed them to the right size and fit. They are working like a champ today. I'll paint them black someday, but the brushed aluminum actually looks kind of cool. No one knows but me anyway...that is unless it's another F-chatter or judge, that is.

Of course, I'm still interested in what is generated by this thread.

Attached is a picture of the re-designed roof latch "arm" that I designed. I had a friend make them up in his shop. He used stainless so they are really tough. I also beefed up the material thickness a bit to add strength.
As mentioned previously, I would be happy to ask him what the cost would be to produce more of these if there is an interest.

Not broken now, but plan to have the top up and down a lot and I get the feeling its just a matter of time.

Can I get a rough idea as to how many people would want these so I can give the manufacturer an estimate? I will try to follow up with an approximate cost.
    Thanks

Though I don't need any right now, I'd be interested in a pair (provided the mfr. doesn't consult with Ferrari on how to price them!)

give me good idea as to how many are needed.

I will speak with the manufacturer next week to get cost estimates.

It might be difficult to get a good idea on how many are requested based on the number of people responding to this thread. It might be easier to come up with pricing by asking the mfr. to price it in ranges (pricing on 1-10 sets, 11-25 sets, etc........) Otherwise, we might have to wait weeks + for people to see this thread and respond............Just my thoughts.................

Birdman share his thoughts as well.
I will take this approach and ask the manufacturer to provide pricing based on quantity and get back to everyone interested by the end of next week.
Anyone that is interested should go to my other thread on the same board and chime in.
    Thanks
