Are the parts truly bespoke to the Maybach and thus the price or are you paying for the label on the box?

They are maybach only. No cross referance available at all at least for the earlier cars. That alternator is a beast of a thing, and the suspension struts are also maybach only. Google up some images, crazy stuff.

You would think a cl600 or s600 alternator would work since they use the same base v12 twin turbo, but maybe it’s not rated high enough to run the additional systems on the Maybach.

That's exactly what I thought too..until I looked at it. It's an almost 400 amp liquid cooled unit and it's a beast. Even the belt drive system is unique to the Maybach. Big wide 6 rib belt, shares nothing with a standard 600. The rest of the engine is the same..coil packs, air filters, transmission etc are the same.

No kidding. And not one I enjoy romping around the shop either. Cool car, but imho not even remotely worth the cost of ownership. An earlier Rolls Phantom is a far cheaper car to keep on the road. Lots of bmw and Land Rover parts stuffed in those. In fact the Rolls is rather cheap to maintain, except for a few parts which are rolls only.

I had no idea on the service costs. I though a Maybach was a largely a badge engineered S600. Helpful.

The 2015+ Maybach shares all common parts with the other W222 series. It was the W/V240's (57/62) that had the unique engine parts. It cost no more to maintain a newer Maybach than any other W222 series V12's (S600, S650, S65).

Of the extra 7.5 inches 6 go to rear leg room. Driving it reminds me of the old Pontiac Bonnevilles that got 6-7 mpg but much sharper handling and the car doesn’t float like the boats of old
Definitely prefer being driven in it rather than driving but not much different from a regular S class
As for parts: the sunroof cracked from a pebble and cost 25K to replace the entire “cartridge “ thankfully fully covered by insurance

Yeah but the 2015 is a longer wheel base Benz S with a Maybach badge. Not actually a new design like the real Maybach 57/62. I don't consider them really Maybach.

The “real” Maybach 56/62 stuck out like an aftermarket SEMA special dreamt up by some NBA also ran. That’s why it failed in the market.
The current Mercedes/Maybach tries to stay under the radar.
If I want to attract attention then I drive my Ferrari!

It would have been a nice feeling, if you pulled the shock and found a VW emblem.

Congratulations on buying the car. Enjoy it.

Looks like there are reman shocks available from RockAuto and elsewhere for 2500-3800.

When we decided on a newer "Maybach" I was shopping it against a Mulsanne and a Phantom. In the end, the conspicuous consumption of a Rolls or Bentley was more than my family could bear. We were looking for an ultra luxury sedan that offered a stately and roomy interior with a more benign exterior (we actually shopped for a few custom Sprinter vans as well).

Although the Maybach is a few inches shorter than the "British" competition, the MB's extra long wheelbase interior volume dwarfs them both. It isn't just the 8 inches of rear legroom, it's the 1/2 inch of additional headroom and additional 200 pounds of rear compartment sound deadening insulation that makes this car special. It is unspeakably quiet. At curbside the car does look enormous due to the altered roof line, extra windows, additional length and Maybach specific dished wheels. At speed it looks no more brazen than an E or S Class. The conspicuous consumption occurs inside this car, not outside. Perfect.

Must be a new offring from Arrnot. They also do the bentley and rolls shocks now. At the time, they were not available. I searched high and low for an alternative..even looked for a used one..came up empty.

Yep that's the one. There's still something wrong when we're discussing a 3500 reman shock as the economical option.

A Maybach S600 made the news recently. Leonard Fournette has one and while driving he was rear-ended. The rear bumper fell off and he autographed it for some road workers that helped him out. :) He's good to play in the AFC championship game this weekend...
