Great post. I just love those birds. Last summer we had 2 pair that stayed around our house for 2 monts or so and came close to us. I never had been that close to them before. You shots are wonderful and thanks for sharing.
Awesome pictures of the baby birds testing the wings. So it looks like they just hold on to the edge of the nest and flap like mad. I bet their little wings look like a couple of blenders sitting there buzzing. LOL. That is some cool stuff. The new nest looks like the mom is using spider web, cob webs, or someting like that.
Kind of sad that this is coming to an end Not going to have much else to post about the babies. But mom is building another nest so it will be interesting to see if I can follow it agian. But here is a series of shots of the mom feeding one of the babies. Notice at the end the mom flys up and lands on the babies back. These little ones are getting aggressive and when they are being feed by the mom, do not want to let go. From what I have noticed the babies are hanging around and the mom feeds them. But they are flying further away and I can now only find one. Also have noticed that the babies make a different type of chip noise compaired to an adult. It is a longer crip, more like a cry. I can not see the mom feeding them much longer as I am sure she is going to have to finish her new nest, and then will be laying new eggs. What will be interesting is if they try to use the feeders in the yard, and if the mom will be as agressive to them as she is with other hummers.
I updated the Gallery with the most recent pictures. http://www.dandfent.com/hummingbird_nest/index.html

that's amazing to see them growing up thanks we don't have these little birds here a stupid question (forgive me) for you : have you seen the father ??
It is amazing what she does. Feeding herself and the babies, making the nest and laying two eggs, and defending the feeders. I think the babies will try to get feed for as long as they can. Just like kids, take as long as it is available Have noticed the youngsters flying and kind of poking at leaves, maybe they are learing how to feed themselves? Don't know who the father was, but see males flying around. Here are some shots today of the mom feeding one of the babies. beautiful shots! I love this thread too. I have a country house with a humming bird feeder outside. In the summer it is wonderful to watch them. My wife will be very excited to see your pics!
