I have been away for the last four days. Was worried that with all the rain here in SoCal they would have not made it, but came home and saw that both babies are still in the nest and have grown. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Went out today to take a look, and notice one of the babies with it's eyes open. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Both birds are getting bigger and their feathers are starting to fill out. It is going to get to be a tight fit in this nest. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some pictures from today. I do not know how much longer till they can fly, but I would guess about another week or so. What I noticed last time we had a nest in a tree, was after they fly out of the nest, they still stay near it so that the mom can feed them. Made a gallery of some pictures so far for easier viewing. http://www.dandfent.com/hummingbird_nest/index.html
Keep the pics coming. This thread is great. Man they sure do get big fast. Have you thought about setting up a video camera to see if you can get them flying for the first time?
I only have an old video camera and do not think the batteries are any good. Maybe if there is ever another nest in our yard I will try to figure out a way to do a web cam. But I did get out my other digital camera that makes .mov files and got these which I think everyone will enjoy. It is really getting to be a tight fit and they are getting their wings ready to go: http://www.dandfent.com/hummingbirds/P3052277.MOV http://www.dandfent.com/hummingbirds/P3052278.MOV Feeding time: http://www.dandfent.com/hummingbirds/P3052279.MOV
Enjoying the morning sun. The mom must like our yard and that tree. She seems to be building another nest. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is one busy bird. She has to feed the two babies, herself and now she is in fact making another nest. You can see the base of it started by her. It seems like she uses a lot of spider webs to hold everything together. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Awesome. Can you pls say how big those cones on your tree are so i can get handle on the hummingbird's size? The birds seem tiny. Thanks
