Very many guys here wear Boss suits? How do you find they hold up over time ... feel ... just some general thoughts about them. Thanks.

I own 3 Boss suits and they seem to hold up pretty well. Granted, I don't wear suits everyday, but the only issue I've run into are the buttons seem to crack quite easily.

Probably the best quality suit for around $600. I prefer Canali but those are hard to find for under $1,000.

I used to wear them back in the day - much more conservative styles then as opposed to now. Easily among the best quality suits I owned. Had a few Armani suits that didn't fit quite as well, nor lasted as well.

I tried one on before my wedding but didn't buy it. It didn't fit well to my body shape and seemed overpriced for the material. If it happens to fit you off the rack then great, but otherwise it's not something I'd buy to have altered.

I ended up going a custom route instead. Picked out a really nice material (really great, actually) and then had the manufacturer royally screw up the cut... so I then had to take the suit elsewhere to get corrected.

It was a lot of hassle, but I have one really great suit now. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I have a number of Boss suits and jackets. I find the black lable fits me the best and most of my stuff is at least 2-5 years old .... so I think they hold up great, as long as you buy classic cut suits. Some of the newer stuff with stretchy material just does not look good.

I even have a Boss suit i bought back in the early 90's... I have kind of moved into more English style suits... the italian cut just dont fit anymore. I think the best suit I've ever had was a tailored Gucci suit I bought in Florence... they took hours to fit it, tailored it and shipped it - Fed Ex to the usa... to bad i cant fit in it any more!!!

I personally have noticed that Hugo Boss quality boils down to the material the suit you want is made of. Some are nicer then others, even in the 1200 dollar range. Hell i've found suits from armani that look like like 200 dollar suits. While others are flawless

+1. I've had many over the years and all held up well to regular use. I don't buy them any more for two reasons: 1. I don't care for the current HB style, 2. I no longer spend $700-$1000+ on suits.

Hugo boss is a great brand and the suits are great and wear well! I've owned 5-6 of them and they have never failed me.

I sold men's clothing for almost 30 yrs. Retired about 6 months ago. I sold the Boss line the last three years I worked and was impressed at the quality for the price. At that time there where 4 different cuts. There fullest fit was bad news, there slimmest was too tight in the armhole for most. The 2 in the middle where great.

    Congratulations on your retirement! :)

I wonder what your thoughts are on shoulder shape of Boss suits... beause the problem I had with them was entirely in the cut around shoulders. My shoulders are very level and a straight shape with hardly any slope in them (see image, left). I found the Boss line just wasn't cut for this body shape so Boss suits were a terrible fit on me, with huge rumples on the upper back of the jacket. I reckon someone with sloping shoulders (see image, right) would find them a terrific fit though.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I have one I bought in the early 1990s. It's held up well, although I haven't worn it much (at all?) in the last 10 years, because my wife hates it.

Andrew, You just might be s.o.l :) The work you require is referred too as lowering the collar, in severe cases such as yours it would be referred too as raising the back. It requires a truly excellent tailor to do a sever job like yours correctly. Short of having it made, find the softest shoulder you can (least amount of padding and construction) this will give the smallest amount of roll behind the collar. Unfortunately there's not a lot of lines doing that these days. I used to sell a custom line called H. Freeman (not Hickey Freeman) that provided us with an actual bubble type level that was placed on each shoulder and the coat was built to these specs. Bottom line, your going to have to spend some bucks to get the fit you want. One other possibility is a line called Oxford, to my knowledge it's the only hand made suit you can still buy off the rack. They're made in Chicago and run about $2,500 on up.

    Best of luck, Ron

Yea, I've already had some difficulties with my shoulder shape - even going bespoke has had its problems as I didn't pick a good tailor the first time around. :(

The suit I had made for my body for my wedding here in the UK was £525 ($850), was royally screwed up by the "tailors" here who kept making severe adjustments in the wrong direction, and then I spent a further $120 in the US getting it modified by my dad's favourite tailor - who had taken pity on me in the circumstances and gave me a special low rate for the quite extensive work to correct it. He simply couldn't believe that the suit had been made for me, it was so completely wrong.

The suit is now a great fit, but it took a lot of effort to get to that point.

Thanks for the tips, I'll look into those next time I'm shopping. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

There's a guy in Austin that did LBJs stuff...he was recently featured in Texas Monthly..

Or, we'll find you someone over in Little Vietnam, if you come to Houston....

Luckily, I'm a 44L right off the rack, just cuff the trousers and go.....

Boss suits fit me pretty much right off the rack. I think they are the best value for $800 and under.

The best suit, IMO, is Isaia. :)

I have Boss tuxedos, suits, and sport coats -- at least 15 in my closet. Red label fits me off the shelf without any alterations (unlike any other fine suit/jacket). Excellent quality and durability. Always buy at fine department stores (Saks mostly) during their annual sales.

I myself find more value in buying from consignment shops and getting deals on killer brands like Kiton & Brioni in the $5-8K range, and even House of BIJAN & ZILLI (The two most expensive mens designers in the world $15K-50K Suits and ostrich and alligator bomber jackets for $100K+ lined with Hermes Scarves). You can pick them up sometimes never worn or worn a couple times but mint condition for $1K on average.

Not dissing Boss...they are super nice, but once you try on one of the above, you will go completely mad over clothing and finding good deals on them. When your done wearing them a few times, you can take them back to the consignment stores and recoup half your money reselling them.

I've got a closet with 8 House of BIJAN jackets made of silks, cashmeres, and lambskin that were on average $15,000 each and some as high as $25,000 that I bought used but they were brand new for far less than you would buy a RL Purple Label for. I'm about to sell them off and trade for different things.

It's fun and you get a lot of value for your money! Anybody else willing to out themselves for doing the same?

Sounds like a good plan. I guess the difficult part is finding suits in your exact size - or do you have them altered?

    All the best,

Bought my first Boss Suit 15 years ago and mega impressed with them always. Forgiving in their cuts and superb quality.

Due to get married again in 9 weeks and have bought a tailored Boss three piece which looks fantastic. Matched it up with a Hermes Tie, good Boss double cuff shirt and a pair of shoes from my favourite shoe designer Oliver Sweeney .. and a new Boss belt.

These shops I go to always have an abundance and everything is all separated by color and size. Of course it's nice to have a tailor you can work with.

The Refinery Celebrity Resale in Las Vegas is smashing! Couture Consignment and Rethreads in Dallas are OFF THE CHART! and Indulge At Fiore in Palm Beach is flat out the best (Many billionaires with vacation property in Palm Beach take their seasonal clothing to Fiore...much of it is unworn).

I have always had good luck with Boss suits and slacks.

Best fit, style and durability for the money.

The guys who have problems are usually fat and out of shape so get to the gym ;)
