Ok ..post pictures or web site links to huge and beautiful mansions...only 1 rule.... Home must be in the US. I will start..... http://1288oaklandestate.com/ Beautiful and huge home in Pasadena, California.
I found this on ther web..... http://good-times.webshots.com/album/551422814IrrFUH Album full of Ira Rennert's Mansion pics.
This house is in Highland Park, Dallas, TX, on 10+ innercity acres. Design architect was world-reknowned British classicist Quinlan Terry. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Located just up the road from me. If I went to the University of Nebraska, I'd call them 'neighbors'. http://www.ebby.com/details/280594.html from the sky Full tour website, beware cheesy music Image Unavailable, Please Login
Let's not forget 10330 Strait Lane in Dallas: $45,000,000. 44000 Sq/ft main house, 73000 total. Seven years to build. Eight hours to destroy. http://www.kodiakconsulting.com/ChateauduTriomphe.htm
Yep, two well known, recently constructed monuments. I don't get the U. of Nebraska thing. Last time I drove by there, maybe 6 months ago, the gatehouse and front wall & gates were intact and the only parts left standing. The site has been otherwise completely clear for several years now. Seems like construction activity had slowed to near-none before the fire, but that's a hazy memory at best...I've seen several very big Dallas house projects started and then abandoned mid-construction.
Must be hard to sell these things, though I guess if you could afford it you probably don't have to sell it. I can't say I'd pay 8 figures to live in a home that was anything but designed 100% for me or extremely historical.
Homes above 10 million are really hard sells. There is a home in Corona Del Mar for sale at $75,000,000 which has been listed for nearly 2 years now. Buysers in this range are very picky!!!!! But at the same time..the economy for them makes no difference...they always have money.
I get angry when I forget something upstairs in my room and am downstairs or outside in my regular sized home. Imagine going to do something and forgetting what you need! No need for a work out, that would be enough exercise for a day.
I've been going thru HP for 40+ years and don't recognize this house. Only place I can think of it being is on Preston along Turtle Creek but I don't think any of those lots are 10+ acres. Can you shed some light on where this is?
Sid Richardson Bass' home in Ft. Worth off Crestline. The place is like a compound with it's own private security force. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Bass Image Unavailable, Please Login
This house is new, completed in the last five years, and is on Preston along Turtle Creek, about mid-way between Armstrong and Beverly. The pic I posted is a view from the Turtle Creek side. The old mansion on the lot was torn down. Lot size I'm guessing at, but it's an educated guess, since I worked on a couple of those houses in the mid '80s...grounds are very big.
For as big as that house is, it isn't that bad looking overall. I know this is a stupid question, but why even build something so huge? Especially when you barely live there in the first place?
Question to Basses - why have all the French inspired gardens, water fountains, reflecting pools when you could have filled that land with garages full of exotic cars? I guess when you have that kind of cash, they could be hiding underground or at another site.
Not sure if this link will work of not. http://maps.live.com/?q=861+Hwy+279%2c+Georgia+&mkt=en-US&FORM=BYRE#JmJiPTMzLjU1NzU0MTMzNjU0NjMlN2UtODQuNDQ4NjExNTkxMzgzNSU3ZTMzLjUzODIyNzc0ODYxNjElN2UtODQuNDc5NTA2NTA4ODIwNA== I'll try and find it, but a Denzel Washington's house is supposedly enormous.
Mike Shannahan is building a 35,000 sf house here in Denver. I drove by the construction site the other day and it's hideous. Our architect was with us and he agreed. Money can't buy taste...

The house is absolutely incredible and not just some oversized tasteless home. I guess he couldn't sell it last year for $135 mil so he pulled it off the market. I remember cleaning the master bath windows and they were made of ballistic glass. Guess he didn't want to get shot while in the shi**er. There was also a telephone in the master sitting area that had a speed dial to George Bush Sr. I remember being tempted to make a prank call The garage had a fleet of LaForzas which were high dollar Italian SUVs at the time with Ford engines.
I hope these count. Biltmore House in Asheville, NC, last weekend at the Ferrari Cup Challenge. Posted by another f-chatter, but I would suspect it was his fiancee' Heather that took the photos.
