That's the thing, the garages all go hot at any event I've been to. It would suck if you couldn't see the cars except on track. I'll call HSR and see what they say.
Spent all day taking pictures and video. Don't have any time to go through them all and post the keepers but here's a few for those that are on the fence as to whether they should go and spectate. I'll post some more once the smoke clears Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
great shots (as always) what's going on with the front brakes on this GT40? two calipers? or....? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks I can't answer you about the brakes other than to say there was no PS or enhancement to the picture. They really glowed that bright and in that way. Here are a couple more shots. The brakes didn't start to show until a few laps into the session and then they really lit up as shown in the first one I posted. Weather stinks for pictures right now but the forecast says it will clear up later in the day. I'm trying to get myself motivated to hit the track again today but might wait until saturday. Here's a few more from thursday. I think that poor Aston Martin was the slowest sounding car on the track. But he was out there driving it. And the Brakes on the Ford GT really did glow. I have been going to the Daytona 24 hrs since the 60's. My father started racing on the beach with Bill France, his first race had Lee Petty in the class. He did the Century Club down there in a 1956 Jag, this was Feb. 17, 1958. So many of the cars I saw at the Classic 24 I had seen run there in real time. James Redman did a super job, there were always cars on the track, the grid line up did a great job, it was so smooth you would think that they had done it for years at Daytona. The Trans Am racers had to rent the track time from HSR according to the HSR people. So that was a fun race. I really liked meeting Arturo Merzario, the F1 driver that pulled Niki Lauda out of his flaming race car, really saving the man's life. He loved the cowboy hat though. Bill you shots are the best I have ever seen. Makes me want to throw my camera away. Man, you are good.
For the Ferrari Fans this was the first Ferrari triple three made. #001 I had never seen this one before. So you saw all sorts of cars you would never seen in a life time. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ricky and Jordan Taylor found religion, or something there. But, their mouths fell open when the other racers on the panel told about hitting the Daytona banks at 220mph. That got their attention. Bob Tullis far left. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Shout out to the 901 shop. I think I sat next to some of your group in the little grandstand by vender village. Patrick Long, drove the old 3 pedal porsche. I asked him how he like the clutch. He say "it keeps you really engaged in what you are doing". I think he said he was entered in 3 cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Tommy Kendall was there with the Trans Am. Hurley Haywood was goofing around with the settings in the car before Patrick long got in. Hmmmmm... Jochen Mass in a Porsch IROC #13. Sunday ran about 4 laps then vanished from the track. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have to say I really enjoyed the sound of this triple 3. And, he was so fast. Strange color. But , man he was smooth. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Night time at the track was magical. The car were being polished, torn down, people all around in different states of excitement. Some eating, other rushing around, the place was something else. Lots of wind though. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jack Lewis had a nice IROC porsche. This came from Penske was raced by Bobby Allison in 1974. And competed at Daytona 18 times. Notice the right front wheel lifting off the ground. Then it was raced in IMSA for about 13 years. Well used machine still rolling. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The #44 Chevron was the one that was bought for the Steve McQueen movie "Le Mans". And, had done some camera work for the movie with James Garner "Grand Prix". Image Unavailable, Please Login
