Having extensively researched the correct pronunciation of the Italian word "mondial" (by asking two Italians), there seems to be conflicting possibilities. A young Italian girl said MAHN Day AL, another older Italian man said MON De ALLEE. Can anyone help me say my car? Man-Dial anyone?

The word in Italian is "mondiale" which means "worldwide". It does not mean "world" ("Mondo" in Italian, "Mundo" in Spanish--you see the similarity though).

How it's pronounced in Italian and how it's butchered in English are two different things.

In Italian, the primary accent on "Mondiale" is on the "a" - 2nd to last syllable, and the secondary accent on "Mon" (first syllable).

The "mon" - in Italian, it's "mon" like "mohn", we don't really have the same sound in English. In English you can get by with "mon" like "han" in "Han Solo".

They shortened the word for the trade name for the car. So, we have "MON-dee-ALL" - primary accent on last syllable.
