So I’ve been lurking on this forum for a while and have been watching the 488 market for some time now. I thought my next car, and first Ferrari, would be a late model year (likely 2018) 488 GTB in RC (gotta have that classic Ferrari color) but the market as of late is pushing lightly used 488’s to $300K (at least here in SoCal). Part of me says to just wait a year for the market to cool, but the other part of me says maybe at that pricing I should just order a brand new F8 and spec it exactly as I want. The biggest “hurdle” for me jumping to an F8 is the lack of that high end wail in the NA V8 of the 488, but then again the F8 is so much more modern inside and out.

So, as I consider more doing a new build on an F8 I could use some of the knowledge and expertise of this forum. I’ve searched a bunch and I’m not really finding what I need, which is to understand the “must have” options. When I built my current 911 I added around $30K of options, which is fairly typical for the car. Most 911s have $30-40K of options, as I’m sure many on this forum know. What I don’t really know, however, is what really “needs” to be spec’d on a F8 and what I should expect to add to the base list in terms of options. I understand the base price is going up $10K shortly, so $290K base. What should I expect to see on a nicely (think average) equipped car? $325K. $350K? More?

Thanks in advance for your help, as it’s much appreciated.

Just for accuracy sake, the 458 was the last NA V8. The 488 is a turbo V8 similar to the F8.

    Enjoy the process,

And to slightly respond to your question . . . . My 2014 458 Spider has about $60k in options, which is probably typical. Definitely the LED steering wheel, but other than that you'll get different opinions about everything.

The full electric seats with heating were a must for me. I almost always drive with the top down and, even in San Diego, it can get chilly.

We've got an order in on a Portofino M with over $100k in options. The order isn't locked yet so I already have to add passenger display (PDIS $5,906) after a test drive last weekend. We even skipped the $4k for Apple Carplay/Android auto. I never looked at the F8, but I have to imagine they added even more options and made them more expensive. Our Portofino M will be Rosso Portofino which is about $12k, but I recently learned that color is a $32k option on an F8.

    Apologies to SoCal, but:

    - Don't need the shields (though the conventional wisdom is that they're better for resale) if you don't like they way they look

    - As I understand it, goldrake seats not available on F8 unless you do Atelier or TM

    - Agree on LED steering wheel

    - Front lift

    - Racing seats

    - Also, spend the extra @$700 for the extended-length CF paddles

    Good luck

Yes, of course. I can’t believe I made that mistake in my message. I was referring to the 488 still (supposedly) sounding significantly better than the F8, but the 458 would be even better. Thanks for calling out the error.

Thanks to all for the replies thus far. Looks like most are leaning toward a few options at most as being really necessary. I thought the carbon fiber wheels look amazing but then found out they’re around $25K. Not really worth it, to me.

Once I gather a bit more info and suggestions from this forum I’ll likely head over to my local dealer to talk through the process, find out what a build might look like price-wise, and what the timeline would be from order to delivery. I’m in no rush, so at least I have that going for me. Also happy to hear that Ferrari dealers do not add dealer markups to new orders (or at least they’re not supposed to). Coming from the Porsche world they go crazy with the ADMs. I wanted to order a new 992 series GT3 Touring and local dealers want a $100K markup. A bit ridiculous.

For the F8 I would get:

    -shields
    -LED steering wheel
    -passenger display
    -Upgraded JBL audio system
    -lift
    -racing seats
-There are lots of stitching and color options in the seat etc., your choice
-as much carbon as you can afford if you like CF
    -carbon front lip
    -carbon engine surround

I went for a different color top and the carbon on the side vents.

When you say must have I am assuming that you want to maybe sell it one day and you want it to be appealing to the next guy. My list is very simple and reasonable. So here goes:

    1. LED steering wheel.
    2. Shields
    3. Suspension lifer
    4. As much Carbon Fiber as you can fit into your budget.
    5. This one is debatable…upgrades sound system.
    6. Front parking sensors

Exactly. I’ve ordered many cars over the years and have never been one to spec a car for the next guy, as I know some do, but with my first Ferrari I wouldn’t want to spec something that’s unsellable. I’m sure there a few options that, if left off, would be a huge turn off to most. Sounds like lots of CF, LED steering wheel and the Scuderia Ferrari shields are the “must haves” judging by the responses thus far.

I notice no one yet has mentioned the Sport Exhaust. That’s typically a must have when I spec cars. Is it not worth it with the F8? Is it better to leave the standard exhaust and then replace with something like a Novitec full exhaust system?

dont forget front suspension lift. You may get some push back from others here but that makes your car more marketable for everyone who may or may not have steep driveways.
Also, sport exhaust is really important with Porsche but does not seem as much so with the Ferraris. I will defer to others for their opinions.

The Sport Exhaust option is a bit of a misnomer. The option simply changes the tailpipe tips from chrome to matte black (EXA3) or Titanium (EXAT). That's it; nothing more than that.

    It's all obviously personal preferences.

    Here's what I,'d do as a minimum.

Get the metallic version of Rosso Corsa. It is almost identical, but it don't get the flat surfaces the solid version get on these modern cars with curves. It's not very metallic, it just looks a bit deeper and mkre clear.

Exterior trim in either CF or painted gloss black.(yes that is an option.)
There's a lot of grey'ish dull plastic exterior parts on the F8, so one of the options really makes a difference, and you see it every time you're with the car.

    Shields

    Front and rear cams.

Front and rear parking sensors. Avoid the adaptive drivers assist etc. It is so ugly it's unbelievable.

    Upgraded hifi

Race seats if you like a sporty feel, especially if you are tall.

    Leather on rear wall.

Steering wheel with LED's. If don't do interior CF, you can get the wheel with LED's and fully leather wrapped.

    Alcantara carpet.

Lifter and AFS. Not because the lifter is that important, but because the AFS is really good.

If you don't want the interior trim in CF but don't care for the alu look either, remember that it can also be ordered painted. Satin black, gloss black, or what ever you like. Just know that alu and CF are not your only options.

That's about it. Everything else is pretty much what you prefer.

Thanks for the thorough reply! I do like CF and always a fan of Alcantara. A lot of folks suggested the race seats as well, so sounds like a must have (for me at least). I prefer a racier setup. I’d probably get a Pista if they didn’t go for a cool half-million dollars.

I'm looking at the pricing spreadsheet right now for the F8 and the LED carbon fiber wheel is listed at $5,062.

As for must haves, spec the car that you want. There are no must haves unless you are being so nice to spec the car for someone else to enjoy after you. Resale spec means your car isn't unique and there will be others out there for sale at the same time, or another will come available. If you haven't been to your local dealer, you should stop in and have a go with the configurator and put together what you like/want. If you're going to eat the depreciation, you should buy the car YOU want, not what us forum people tell you that you have to spec. That's how I view it at least.

    Resale spec:
    RC or RS exterior
    Black or Tan interior
    Shields
    Suspension Lifter
    LED wheel
Mix in carbon parts or race buckets or daytona style seats to elevate MSRP at your choosing.

Keep in mind you can easily add shields, but once on, you cannot really delete them (there's an indentation in the fender where they're located).

Mike how do you add shields if you don’t spec it? The fenders are different.
