My question is probably the simplest and most silly anyone could ask an F360 or F430 owner. But seeing as I am but 19 years old and don't own such a fine italian specimen, I thought I could ask here.

I've seen a lot of F430's with F1 sequential gearboxes rev their engines very loudly while slowly driving by, to show off.
I was wondering how that works?
With a normal manual gearbox, you just hold the clutch and rev it. But seeing as you don't have a clutch to hold down when you use the F1 shifting paddles, how do you rev the engine without darting forward everytime you press the gas peddle to astronomical RPM's?

I thank you for your wisdom!

i do not have one, but i believe this can be accomplished by temporarily putting the car into neutral (pulling both paddles back simultaneously) while it's moving, and then blipping the throttle.. followed by a click of the right paddle to get back into gear

probably not the safest way to be driving, but that's my guess on how it could be done

Simply throw it into neutral and hit the gas.

It takes only a few milliseconds to pull both paddles back to get neutral. When you want to engage a gear after making a fool of yourself in neutral, hit the downshift paddle, which gets you one gear lower than hitting the upshift paddle. When you hit the upshift button from neutral while rolling, the F1 ECU will give you the highest gear in which the engine will run smoothly, and that is usually way too high a gear.

This thread has actually made my day. I have a 430 Manual, and being 26yrs old I too like giving it revs to show off when I arrive anywhere! I had a test of an F1 and that was the major thing that put me off as I couldn't work out how to do it either. It's also put me off the upgrade to the 458 but now that I know you can pull both paddles to hit neutral while rolling this has changed my outlook on things!!

Thank you Mr 19yr old man, you've given me hope now that Ferrari have pulled out of the Manual Gearshift business!!

I'd like to thank all of you for your quick replies, and especially tazandjan, because I couldn't of dreamt of a more perfect answer to my question!

You are 26 years and have an F430?
    This is fortunate!

Yup, it took me to age 27 to get my Dino 246 GT back in 1975. Glad to see there are other people who are severe car freaks at a young age. We have one FChatter who had a 250 GTO at age 19, though, and that trumps all of us.

    Haha thanks guys!

I was 25 when I bought her, trading in my 997 C4S for the Nero 430 Spider I currently enjoy. I loved that 997 though, Meteor Grey with 19" sport Designs and black leather with silver contrast.... But you really cannot beat an F-car in my opinion, it's been my dream car since it came out when I was 19! Always liked the 360 though before hand.

Next on the list is the 458 spider in 4 or 5 years, that's the plan anyway... or a Dino and keep the 430. I'm deliberately not going to drive or even look at a 458 until I can afford it, I like my 430 too much and don't want to ruin the awe that I still have! The first time I blipped the throttle (even in "wet" mode) and heard that V8 made me realise these things are even better than you think as a kid.

    I reckon! :D:D

    Fantastic! :):)

    Very good sir! :D:D

    I was 25 when I bought my 348. :):)

If I lived in the UK, I could have bought a 430 for the same money also. :(:(

Congrats and enjoy! Its a shame I cant say I can step up into a 458 in 4-5 yrs time like yourself. But I can get a 430 if I want. ;);)

Hey thanks for asking this question! I've been meaning to ask this sometime. I'm also 19 years old. Can I ask how you guys were able to buy a Ferrari at such a young age, what you did to earn money, etc?

I wasn't lucky enough for the inheritance or the well off background route, so I picked the car I wanted and then grafted like hell until I got it!

Knuckle down, find out how those in charge want you to perform and do it to the letter. Constantly ask for feedback and make sure everyone who's got ears know's you want to get through the ranks. Ask the question "in theory, what would you expect of someone at my age to make it to the upper levels" and whatever gets said... DO IT!

That's what I did and I now run the engineering department of a 330,000 tonne crude oil tanker in the south pacific, and have done for 3 years now.

It's not who you know, or what you know, it's all about doing as your told and thinking ten steps ahead.

I've got two fitters on board and they're filipino, so unless you're happy with $20 a day I'm not sure we could afford you...!! The Chief engineer is on $200k which is for only 6 months work so if you've got a Chiefs ticket give me a call!

    $20 a day?? Make it $30 a day and we have a deal. :D:D

Goes to show how sad the whole show is eh?? Chief big dog earns $200K pa and I BET those little Filo's earn $50K pa between them if they're lucky.:rolleyes:

Sounds a lot like where I work here in the mines. :D:D

I also work 6 months of the year, 4 on 4 off for a bit less than the big chieif. I would want $200K to do his job out at sea, away from my family and friends for 6 months of the year. :D:D

Friend scored a gig fitting an oil rig a 5 years ago. Paying US $160K back then, tax free. Fly him anywhere in the world he wants on his days off. His roster was 3 months on, 1 month off. Last we heard, he was flying into the Philipines and Canada on this days off seeing his girlfriends he had there.:eek:

I'm just about to spend 3 months on the Aussie coast on my ship, we're heading for Port Headland and Dampier at the minute then off down to Fremantle. It's a hard life but someones got to do it eh...!

We too are tax free here, it's a UK government ruling and only applies to Merchant Navy so if I was to simply work abroad I wouldn't get away with it. I've been thinking about the rigs though, it would have to be a Chief's job and i'd have to move out of england but hey, that doesn't particularly worry me!

What part of Aus you in then?

I was thinking about this last night and that was one of my questions. What happens when you put it back in gear. I had to figure it would not grab first. Guess this answers it.
