How to remove the cigarette lighter from the ashtray?

would love the answer to this as well, as I need to replace my lighter (broken cover). The thread linked again doesn't include the conclusion/answer to the question!

 

Can you fit a tiny set of needle nose pliers in through the bottom to reach those tabs and pull on it at the same time?

Check You Tube 'Lighter Socket Removal', there are numerous videos on how to do this.
These lighter sockets are pretty much 'universal', they go in easily but are a pain to remove.
I encountered the same issue when doing my ashtray but I was finally able to accomplish removal with the help provided on You Tube.

I just refinished mine, I pulled it up and taped it and left it in, I didn't wanna break it.

oh, missed it. will give it a try and hope I don't break anything. On second thought, I bought an entirely new unit so perhaps I should just break it on purpose to facilitate extraction. Mine works but it was missing the little cap and ferrari doesn't sell it separate!
