i keep trying to overlap 2 seperate images on one page in mspaint, but no luck so far i don't have pshop or other such (i'm not a big user) i want one image to be transparent and overlayed onto another image (so it shows through) anyone have some instruction on how to accomplish this? thanks
Instructions, eh? http://tutorialartmspaint.blogspot.com/2009/07/ms-paint-drawing-work-with-layer.html
What you want to do requires the two images to be put into two separate layers, and then you need to adjust the top layer's transparency until you get the merged effect you want. There are free alternatives to photoshop that do this. Google for image editing software that handles layers and download one.
yes, that's exactly what i'm trying to do.....i have mspaint on my machine, so is why i'm using it, but have had no luck with setting transparency coloring, etc. what program like what you said to look for, do you suggest, in particular??
ha, i thought bubblesq was pulling my leg at first http://www.gimp.org/ edit: nope, i don't like the forced information for download that comes up for that one......what's another choice?
What forced information for download? I've never seen that. If you are using windows, just get this installer from sourceforge.. http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gimp-2.6.11-i686-setup-1.exe
MS Paint does not have layers or transparency adjustments. It is very basic. Check out http://sixrevisions.com/graphics-design/10-excellent-open-source-and-free-alternatives-to-photoshop/ Try Paint, it's mentioned on the page linked above. I have Photoshop, I understand the underlying principles and I read up on it a fair amount so I can muddle my way around it, but I don't use it much. It's too advanced and complicated for me, generally. Problem is, I have suddenly become very aware of how much time it all takes, and I can think of much better things to do with my time than adjusting colour levels and transparency levels so an image looks just right. I think I will be outsourcing more and more. Life's too short.
huh? Just downloaded from that very link (even though I already have GIMP on my machine) and got nothing but a normal download. GIMP is a safe, powerful, GNU-license program, very popular in the Linux world. Not sure what you clicked on..... worked fine here. Jedi
i clicked on download, and it insists on entering [red]*Required[/red] personal info sheet before, which i pass on those kind of things
No idea what you're getting. Just did it here, from the SAME LINK and the download was clean. Try getting it from CNET or somewhere else. Trust me - GIMP is a safe program. That link is safe. YOU have something going on in YOUR computer that's mucking with it. I just tried it again - zero issues (on an old XP box in the 'Man Room' cigar lounge no less... worked fine, no "personal info sheet" BS) Jedi
okay, think i found it here, V2.6 loading....the other page/link has a popup blocked coming from it too hm?....okay, so it's loaded, and all that comes up when i run it are 3 small windows..."GNU image manipulation program" so am i supposed to edit images in one of these 3 windows, then copy/paste it into my paint page?
Why does it have to go back to mspaint? I thought you just wanted to overlap two images? Open the first image in GIMP. The click file - open as layer - the other image. In the layers window move whichever one you want on top and adjust it's transparency. (highlight that layer - then at the top of the layers box, drag the "opacity" slider to the left until it looks how you want it to look) Then save it as PNG.
^ it doesnt really, i was just trying to figure this out okay, so got it figured, this GIMP worked out good, thanks guys! here's what i did: in the first window, paste in the first image, then second one....each shows as a layer each in the second "layers" window the second image adjust the "opacity" to get the desired transparency....then use the third "tool box" window, to select tools to align and scale the images to match as desired there you go, it took me a whole fricken day, but at the end, i learned something new
Yup, a day you will never get back. So, was it worth it? I'd rather pay a local starving student/artist to do it for me. Never costs more than a few bucks, and if I have a huge job with hundreds of images, the time savings vs. cost really make sense.
Geez, by the time you picked up the phone and dialed the number this job could have been over with. It didn't take him all day - looks like it took him about 30 minutes. Next time it will take 1 minute.
LOL i phrased poorly, meant that before the end of the day, i actually learned something new it worked out great, no problems, and the GIMP + paint.net i loaded now, so i have those to use in future BQ you're right, it wasnt daunting at all, took me inside of 5 minutes, and i copy/pasted the resulting image into my word doc. so it's all ready for tomorrow thanks again guys!
