    Hello,

Just like the title says? How can I make sure I'm not being dumped a Rental? With exotic rental businesses popping up everywhere, more and more of these cars are available to the public's abuse. Not to mention, all those previously grounded rental business with bigger and bigger fleets. Aside from a few owners, most Ferrari owners lease their cars. Better tax write off, lower payments etc... As result, pulling the carfax has become useless because regardless it'll always say the car was leased. Of course most Exotic Rentals also lease their fleet, so you don't know if it was a private lease, or a corporate lease for rental. Even getting a PPI on the car, won't reveal much if the car is in good working condition. However as everyone would understand, paying all this money, you just simply don't want a abused rental. What's the secret?

Abuse usually shows. I'd look first to the seats. A bunch of different pairs of pants sliding into the seat will create wear. A car less than 10 years old with a redyed seat or repair might be a tip off.

A PPI with careful attention to the under body should show something. The front lip will likely have to be redone or replaced on a rental. A personally owned vehicle will have a couple scrapes.

You can always buy from an owner or a dealer that has the full history.

If one wants to buy at the bottom of a price range for a given model there will always be added risk, so buying at the higher end of the price range and being very demanding should keep you out of trouble.

There really are a lot of Ferraris for sale. But it's not the type of car where you can decide to buy one and have exactly what you want in a week. If you are picky it can take a while to find the right car.

No, most of the time the car fax lists either "commercial" or "corporate". Those are the words to look for.

"Most Ferrari owners lease their cars."

Really? I didn't know that. Any references to point me to on this?

I'd be willing to bet that zero Ferrari owners lease their cars. Unless, of course, you are the lessor. :)

If you turn on the radio and all the presets sound like disco or porn soundtracks, it was a rental. If the drivers seat has a squeak to it from too many people gettin it on.. it was a rental. ;)

With these type of leases: Miller Motorcars Lease Specials all over every single eBay dealer, 2.5K vs 4K a month seems a better deal.

I'm sure as any person who prepares their car for sale, would probably take care of that prior to showing it. lol

Commercial, Corporate, even private lease is risky. A private lease could be a rental, but a Corporate or Commercial lease could be a salary bonus to a CEO. That's why it's hard to tell what kind of lease it was. You'd never know.

Yes, I'm sure any dealership that buys these lease cars at Auctions will go above and beyond detailing them to perfection so you'd never know. They themselves would only know it was an abused rental car.
