How about this? The Mercedes-Benz Pullman. Would solve the problem of only having 4 seats.

This is the only time I've ever seen one, while in Paris in 2003.

Good observation. I have the same feeling. Every contemporary Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari or even Audi has a more stylish interior .. .. at least for my taste.

One more time on the SWB's. The gentlemen who was the previous owner of our home has a very nice SWB he brings to the show circuit. Unfortunately, I didn't take any close-ups pictures of this immaculate SWB, but the sign does a pretty good job describing the car. It was absolutely perfect.

In early 2008 I had dinner with an auto broker from LA who had just bought one for $125k. So they were already down big time by then.

Pulling this one back up from the wayback (didn't realize how old the posts were in here, 'cause the last few were recent). Interesting to note that this post dates to almost a year BEFORE I bought my '98 740iL (bought in '06 with 143k miles on it for $7500, a mere 10% of it's original sticker price).

The E38 740 has proven to be an inexpensive to own daily driver, that when things do go wrong on, are very easy to DIY. I have 180k on it now, and have friends with over 250-300k on theirs. In the last 3 1/2 years I've only spent $1500 on repairs to it, and a few of them were preventative when I got it, as I had no record of when they had been adressed in the past.

There is a thriving community of E32/E38 owners that share resources that make owning one quite easy.

My car, and the local E38 meet this past weekend:

I like the W140 which is the base for the car.

E38, is my fav 7 series. Bangle screwed up pretty much the whole BMW product line in my view and there isn't anything from his era that I would even WANT to own... I guess the current 3 series coupe is not to bad, but that is about it... YMMV

This guy thinks he can make $50k in 6 months with this ugly thing. I was at the auction in PA and nobody wanted anything to do with this car. I was talking to a limo service owner who was thinking about buying it for $100k and painting the whole car.

I don't know, the new W221 S600 is really a solid, nice big car. It is starting to retain some old W140 characteristics. I actually love it. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, and it feels like a tank.

10x better then the new 7-series.

I am supprised they are still that high. I would venture the 50k range soon for what literally is a large, generation old (in terms of tech) S class.

My 1995 Rolls Royce (Silver Dawn) was about $50K when I bought it three years ago - it had 26,000 miles. The list price was about $150K.
