I want to order the S-Line exhaust system with S-Line catless straight pipes. I was told that this will definitely cause a check engine light. I was also told the fabspeed O2 spacers did not work in preventing a CEL with the S-Line exhaust and straight pipes. I don’t want to do a tune because I’m concerned about long term reliability so I don’t want to touch the ECU at all. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with the S-Line system to prevent a CEL?

Sorry to say, that the easiest way is to leave it alone and be happy. The grief that someone can get from trouble shooting a gremlin can be very taxing and I myself, choose the other path.

Barring a well documented and proven solution, I’m leaning in the direction of just keeping the stock setup.

Surely someone on here has the S Line exhaust and straight pipes and can comment!

Deleting the cat's and associated codes via the ecu is the fastest and simplest solution. Not to mention it can all be done via obd2, no need to remove or bench ecms

Someone with the same setup on here decided to do that. Every 30-40 miles after removing it, the car would go into limp mode.

Deleting the cats equals failing the emissions tests?

OP I'm not sure where you're located, but if you're in the US keep in mind that some states require an OBD connection for emissions testings and turning a CEL off can often be caught and cause a failure.

I am in a state that requires no emissions testing. Thanks though.

Don’t be jealous until we confirm how I can run my car without a CEL!

Love to know how mine is setup . (I didn't do it ) but it has a cat delete, kline exhaust no cel and runs like a scalded monkey. The only setup I would EVER use for sound and performance !!

I had IPE cat deletes and IPE exhaust and never got CEL..running 3 years on the car now. But I heard it can trigger CEL on some cars, its just lucky or not. Ever since then, I've just left it alone. Pass smog even via OBD2.

I've tried the O2 extenders and mini-cats on both my F430 and 458, they did not work for me. They took care of the P0420 Cat efficiency errors, but then I got different DTC codes - P0134, P0140, P0160, Oxygen Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected. So that's a no go.

Generally speaking, the only solution I've found that works all the time is getting a tune that will change the readiness monitors to ignore the rear O2 readings. Most reputable tuners can do this no problem. Plus you can get some more power out of the car and take advantage of your free flowing exhaust better.

Of note, depending on your location, you may still even pass emissions testing with a tune if they do it properly. You want the readiness monitor to say "Not Available" instead of "Not Ready" or "Missing".

Quick question on a related topic for those reading this thread. I need to remove the O2 extenders on the Kline exhaust on my 488 for the reason above. Can I get sufficient access from underneath by removing the diffuser, or is access better with wheels and wheel arch liners off? Anyone happen to know?

If my memory serves me well, going in through the wheel liners is easier.

Can anyone recommend which tune to go with specifically 458 with cat deletes?

Thanks. This seems to be the easiest solution. Doing a real tune is just not something I’d want to do as reliability is my primary concern.

How about just try the muffler by itself first . There are alot of exhausts that will make this thing sound awesome without removing the cats.

Cats do make a huge difference. But frankly some of the new big 200 cell cars flow a ton and are even Euro 6 compliant. I believe that Fabspeed sells them.

Went ahead and ordered the S Line catback exhaust. They were a great company to deal with. Should hopefully have it in a week or two. I did not order the straight pipes. Will install the exhaust only first and see how I like the volume and will then add the test pipes if I want more.

I tried the O2 spacers with mini cats in, didnt work for me, CEL after 12 miles.

The Capristo OBD Wizard is what I switched to, works perfectly.
