I recently purchased a 2007 599 from a reputable dealer. The car was ready to be picked up and 2 days before it was to be picked up I received a call from my salesman saying that they were doing another once over before the car left and they determined that there was an issue with the dash. They said that the lights were flickering. I was told not to worry because this is a common problem and that something like 60% to 70% of the 599's that were delivered had a dash issue. Can someone share with me if there is a known issue with the dash on 599's. I never heard of such a thing.

Although they are making the repair they had to remove the faulty part and send it to Italy for repair. It has almost been 1 month and still no part. They keep telling me to be patient.

I finally had enough and called the corporate office and within 24 hours I at least had someone on it. We agreed that they would pay for shipping au gratis and that if the car was not delivered to my doorstep in 2 weeks that they would refund 100% of my money.

Although this is all fine and good, my main concern now is that I get the car and a few months later the issue reoccurs. Has anyone had this issue and if so, once it was repaired did the issue reoccur. I am very hesitant to take possession of the car at this point but I really love the car. This all might be a moot point if I don't receive the car in 2 weeks.

    Thoughts?????

On my 612, if the battery isn't properly charged, the dash flickers a bit during engine fire up. It appears to be very sensitive to voltage fluctuation.

I wonder if this is connected to consequent dash failures?

A reputable dealer will stand by the car and the repair. Besides a repair by an authorized dealer is covered by warranty from Ferrari, and it can be taken to any authorized dealer for re-repair if the original repair fails. I wouldn't worry. Wait and enjoy! :) Congrats on the car!

The instrument clusters (speedo/tach TFT screen) are known for problems. Simply put the electronics do not receive enough cooling- over time they degrade. Don't freak out. Ferraris, like all machines have strong points and weak points. This is a weak point. So we are now many years into the 599s and this is not too surprising. The key thing here is the dealer caught it and is doing something about it. In the world of Ferrari things sometimes move more slowly than one would like. My guess is they have a specialist who is repairing the electronics. This can take a few weeks. The other choice is to replace the entire cluster. That can be big money. (my memory is a little hazy but the number $7,000 is what's popping up). At this juncture if they are still communicating with you I wouldn't worry. Again, it seems to me they are doing the right thing for you and just imagine how you'd feel if you had the car for a week and then had to send it back...

Speaking of the gauge cluster, does anyone know how to remove the dash pod that houses the gauges? My leather is shrinking a bit and I'd like to fix it. Thanks Frank

Out of warranty on digital instrument panels, you want to deal with FAI. Rod and Will are the experts on digital instrument panels and have access to all the parts needed to repair them.

Yes, you need to remove two screws that holds it to the dash - in order to access these screws you need to remove the upper and lower steering column plastic covers.

Start with the plastic covers and then it will be self explanatory - if you need help post pictures and I will guide you.

Chaps, whilst on this subject. I keep meaning to ask, "how do you raise the backlight intensity on the central tacho of a 599?" I can raise and lower the TFT brightness but it doesn't affect the tacho - is it controlled separately?

It is easy - just a bit cumbersome given the positioning of the screws.

Make sure to have a long and thin extension - you will need Phillips bit and 8mm socket.

The dimmer control for my TFT also control the brightness of the tach.

Does the steering wheel need to be removed to access the 2 8mm screws?

My 2008 599 had a dash that was very sensitive to voltage changes. When you put on the turn signal, the instrument panel would flicker slightly. I also had some issues when the panel would turn on and off randomly for a few days. Or the brightness would change. These things are common with 599s as i was told by the dealer. I decided to ignore it and the problem disappeared after a while. But no doubt it will come back again.

The TFT screens are a weak point, and I fear that every 599 will have this issue at some point. mine kind of flickers - and went out once ... so I know it will happen again... will replace when its a major issue...

    Roger,

Years ago I complained to Chris Bour, Service Manager of Ferrari South Bay, that my 599 tach's backlight was a bit dim and inquired if it can be brightened up. His answer was in so many words - Ferrari electronics engineers didn't specify to their supplier a separate rheostat to be added for that purpose. The existing rheostat therefore controls both the TFT display's brightness and the tach's backlight.

Ferrari tech confirmed with me today - " if the battery is starting to fail, then a flickering dash is the first tell-tale sign ". He has known batteries last one year only and some 6 years or more?

Dealing with my 2007 599 dash cluster now. There is a lot of posts regarding 599 clusters and here is what I know so far.

First, seems a pretty common problem with Ferraris of this era by the various posts I read online.

Second, my cluster has been removed by a specialist Ferrari garage and I sent it to Cluster Repairs UK who specialize in Ferrari Cluster faults. They have had it two weeks now. All components have been replaced except for the LCD. They tested it and everything was fine. On the final test after it cooled it failed again (blinking lights, re-setting and ´System Failure´ warning light remained until switched on/off but flickering persists). They advised all components are now tested and fine, therefore the issue is a software problem within the onboard chip in the cluster, the data is either damaged or faulty. They cannot repair it further as they do not do software updates/repairs. Strangely, a competitor of theirs say they do software repairs and they probably screwed up the software - however this is gossip.

Lastly, read a few horror stories of owners using main dealers to repair the cluster, which is sent to Ferrari who take months to look at it and ultimately do not repair it but sell them a new cluster at major cost (4k - 6k GBP). Seems like I will be facing buying a new cluster. Very annoying as it is just a microchip fault.

Common problem, I had my tft screen repaired as well. The good point is, Ferrari is repairing it (before they changed, but no more stock i have been told) and it takes a long time. And new one is upgraded, do not think it will come back faulty. Just wait, it is worth and it will not cost you a penny. (i hope)
