I recently bought a '99 355 and have heard the horror stories about the dash shrinkage. I'd like to do anything I can to prevent this. The car stays garaged and only sits outside for a few hours at a time occasionally. I searched on this subject and found several threads reccomending specific products but none mentioned frequency of application. While your at it, please list your preferred leather conditioner for the dash.

In addition to conditioning the leather you may consider purchasing a UVS100 Heat Shield by CoverCraft. Great protection when your car is sitting outside. Custom maid to your specific model and superior quality.

I use Autogym leather cleaner and conditioner twice a year. Never had a problem.

Congrats on the car and welcome!

My 355 is concours and I hit the dash about every 2 or 3 months. More in the summer with the top down.

I'm a big fan of Leatherique - used it long before they were a sponsor here. The only problem is that it does not have UV protection. After Leatherique I like 3 products to put on top:

    1. 3M Vinyl and leather conditioner - any parts store small black bottle.
    2. Meguiars new Aloe conditioner - just came out recently.
    3. 303

1 and 2 leave a "shinny" gloss finish and 303 leaves less shine and more of a "sheen" - depends on what you like. All 3 have UV.

Of course, for a show leatherique only, because they deduct points for a shiny dash.

Just make sure what you use does not have silicone because it can hurt your leather and create that "fog" on the windshield that bakes on when you leave your car out in the sun.

HIGGINS - I really like Autoglym products, did not know about the leather care...how does the black come out? Shine or matt?

I use Zymol Treat. Leaves the leather looking rich in colour, supple and not shiny. I just wipe a v little on every 2 months or so.

    Hide food every 3 months....
Especially in Singapore where the sun is always out and humidity is always around 90%.

I use Autoglym leather conditioner on my 456GT at least once per 1-2 months... It is not a harsh cleaner and leaves the leather matte (once dry) and supple. The hide food cleaner is okay for some dyed leathers, but apparently is not as good for all dashes and seats (check other threads). Since I have the older connolly leather interior, I decided to go with Autoglym - have used it for 4-5 months now and I'm completely satisfied with it.

I've used Hide Food forever but I've been hearing good things about Autoglym lately. Where do you buy this stuff?

I buy the Autoglym line at Halfords in the UK. Don't know who the US distributor is but I believe they have a website.

I use Lexol once a year on ALL the leather. The car does not sit in the sun though. I may use it more often on the dash if I had to leave it in the sun.

In so cal (orange county), you can buy Auto Glym products at a store all Auto Detail Depot in costa mesa, right off the 55 south fwy. They have a good selection of products, too...;)

Easy way to find it... go 55 south until it ends, then make u turn... it's on the right hand side next to Ferrari Service of CM.

    Great Wax...

Radiant Wax Polish...is a little aggressive but nothing beats it for a base coat regardless of what you want to put on top of it.

Can follow with Super Glym Wax Polish - A polish like above, suggested for new cars, less aggressive, but has glazing properties that fill in minor swirls. Wipe on wipe off.

Seal it with carnauba or their Liquid Hard Wax. Liquid hard wax looks like water, wipe on, wipe off.

Raidiant Wax Polish (the first one) is best used with a buffer and yellow pad, but can be done by hand.

Leatherique every 2-3 months. Also note, that there are some products out there that have a chemical in it that will cause a "hazy film" to accumulate on the inside of the windshield. don't know what it is called but does not have that problem with Leatherique. The haze makes it tough to clean especially down towards the bottom where you usually cannot reach.

I used hide food than was told there were real problems with using it on newer finish leather in Ferrari. I used too much ones, and on a hot day my 355 dash shrank slightly. That was the last time I will use it.

I use Lexol..and find it the best. Not one person ever has any negative comments on it. Finish after treatments feels super right. Downside is no UVA or UVB protection. So I got the new Meguires and new Armorall treatments, both with UV. Both seem fine. I wish Lexol would come out with a UV protectant.

I used them when the leather feels like it needs it. Maybe every couple months

Guys, any updates here? I'm planning on purchasing Leatherique, as I understand it to be a high-quality product, and one that will not leave a haze, as has been mentioned above. I have had the car for almost a year, and have not conditioned the leather yet, so want to do a full conditioning soon, especially given the cold weather. For this reason, do I need to get both the Rejuvenator Oil AND the Pristine Clean product (which seems like a more comprehensive solution), or can I just go with the Pristine Clean product?

    http://www.superiorcarcare.net/leleca.html

Also, if you know where I can get better pricing than the link above, please let me know.

    Many thanks.

Lexol goes on the best. Light coats are the way to go. Sprays right on. Hide food is too goopy.

I've used Hide Food and Lexol and don't like either of them. I don't feel like I get any real results. I tried the Leatherique and felt like I got positive results. Even on some very old cracked and damaged leather. I won't use anything else at this point.

Funny, I thought you had to use your car before the leather got worn.

Did you use both the Rejuvenator and the Pristine Clean or just the PC?
