My 9 year old son was watching the 1993 movie, Sandlot. In the movie the ball signed by Babe Ruth is said to be worth more than your life! So- My son wants to know, just how much is that? Anyone have any idea? I sure don't.

I have a ball signed by Connie Mack from that same time frame. It looks nothing like that ball, much dirtier, that one is much too clean. I would imagine the white would darken over time much more. My grandfather got the signature so I know its real and I would NEVER let it go. Its all I have from the guy who used to haul me around in my radio flyer.

The bb sig fraud industry has been featured on Dateline or 20-20 there are 50x more fakes than real stuff out there. Even the cert's of authenticity are questionable as that has become a cottage industry of fraud

Oh and there is no way that baseball is the real deal. Ever see leather getting close to 100 years old?? it ain't white

i was watching this show called "Masterminds" about a sports collector who started faking babe ruth signatures, and then "dating" the balls in dog food and moth balls for weeks, to get that "authentic look", he supposedly made $300 million in two years, faking autographs.

I know a guy who has a genuine Babe Ruth autograph. I think it is on a baseball; can't remember exactly. His dad worked at CBS radio in NYC back during the 1940s. One day the Babe showed up for some kind of radio program interview and my friend's dad got an autograph from him. So at least he knows that it's authentic. Without a proven trail of provenance, I would assume that any of those so called "collectables" aren't worth a hill of beans.

I'm not so sure that the one on the e-bay listing is a fake. First of all, back then they were beginning to figure out ways to preserve memorabilia, however if it was treated like how it's shown in the pictures, being held by hands, then im not so sure of it. But an authentic Babe Ruth signature could easily fetch 100-175 grand, that's a 360 right there-but if you have one, I would hold onto it for another ten years, because your probably looking at another 25-50 grand appreciation. You have to think that there aren't very many out there, there will never be any more REAL Ruth signatures, and there are going to be fewer and fewer on the market. The same thing is going to happen with players like Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson and older players like Connie Mack. I would love to see an authentic autograph from any of these men, however an autograph from The Babe I think is one that I would hold onto for a good part of my life-not to make money off of, but baseball to me is the greatest game ever, and Babe Ruth definitely epitomizes that statement.

Actually, check out this site. http://www.baberuthautographs.com/index.php?pid=1

Judging by their knowledge of the Ruth balls, I would think the ebay ball is a fake. A signed ball with a PSA of 8 is listed for $59K, PSA7 is $47,500 and a smudgy one is under $20K. Their top ball is a 9 and priced at $110,000. I think that ebay ball is too clean.

I have a signed Ruth picture. I know for a fact it's real because it's my grandmother's and she's old ;). I don't remember how she got it. It's been framed and is in fantabulous condition.
